January Signings: 3 Experienced Right Backs Who Will Add Depth To Manchester United’s Defence

Share

The last transfer season was a mixed one for Manchester United. While they were great in bringing a host of attacking players, they could not arrange their defense so well. Actually they could not hold of a proper centre back and now they are paying the price for it. Also their right back situation is vulnerable and relying only on Rafael is never a good option for a club as huge as Manchester United. They should have brought in some players in the summer itself, but they failed to do so and in the January window they should be looking to do this without failure. While Louis van Gaal has a particular playing style and it is not always easy to get the kind of players with his formation in mind, United do have some options and they should act on them. We provide the names of some of the right backs Manchester United can try and capture in the January transfer window.

1. Juanfran

The Atletico Madrid right back has been one of the better performers of the club last season and helped his side win the La Liga. Atletico Madrid always seem, to sell off their best players and Chelsea got the best deals last time when they took away Diego Costa and Filipe Luis from them. United can try and lure Juanfran to the Old Trafford this term and that would solve all their problems in the right side of the defence. Juanfran is 29 years old and still has a couple of years of top level football in him and he would be the immediate solution for van Gaal. He has the defensive rigidity and the attacking instincts that the Dutch manager looks in his players and in all respect Juanfran would be a brilliant choice for United.

2. Dani Alves

The Brazilian will be released by Barcelona after this season as his contract ends. Although Alves is 31 and would not be able to continue for a very long period of time, he can still do the trick and United would have a ready made solution in him as they look for other options on a longer term basis. Alves would also not cost much to United as Barcelona would not be able to charge a huge fees for his transfer and it will be a great thing for United to get an experienced man as Alves.

3. Gregory van der Wiel

The PSG man could be let go by the French outfit as they have signed Serge Aurier on a loan deal last summer. der Wiel is a Dutch and that would certainly impress van Gaal who would be able to connect with him instantly. He is just 26 and has shown all the promise of a great future in front of him and Manchester United could potentially benefit from his signature for years to come. Even he would not cost United much with PSG looking to offload him sooner than later.
