Is Manchester United’s Winter Transfer Window A Blessing In Disguise?

Share

During the summer window Man United were the busiest side in the market who purchased six players. But these hectic activities were expected form Man United in the window mainly because of the departures of many senior players and also poor performance in the previous season due to which they finished in 7th position in the Premier League and could not reach the Champions League, which was a shame for a side like them. And among the players who left, some of them believed their job with the club was done, some retired and those who stayed at the club where too old and going through a bad patch of their career.

The man behind all the successful Man United transfers is a British Accountant Ed Woodward, who was appointed on that position at Old Trafford right after the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson. But till now he has failed to impress the Man United fans as all his transfers were either lucky or flop. Flop signing is an addition in the squad which is either not the right piece in the jigsaw or under performing with that team and those players were Juan Mata and deadline day panic buy Marouane Fellaini up to some extent. Whereas transfers like Luke Shaw, Radamel Falcao, Angel Di Maria were the Lucky signings and are yet to prove themselves to the fans. Another signing who cannot be added in either of the category is Ander Herrera as he has not yet proved himself. To be precise only two signings under Woodward have been totally worth the money and have fulfilled the needs of the squad and those two were Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind.

January Window 2015

Talking about January window, Man United were not successful in landing their big money targets like Matts Hummels, Kevin Strootman, Gareth Bale and a few more. Instead of signing these players they somehow landed on Barcelona’s rejected goalkeeper Victor Valdez. But this move is a blessing in disguise because Van Gaal will now get more time and a larger horizon to understand the squad and gel the squad according to their limits and also try new formations and deploy them with revamped tactics. Apart from all these advantages, the addition of a highly experienced player like Victor Valdez will be very good for a team, which is under a transition stage and also it will be very beneficial for the next big thing David De Gea as he can learn a thing or two from the veteran.

The right time for United to sign any player will be the upcoming summer window of 2015 because by then every player in the squad will be completely settled and it will also be the about time to land on a conclusion on whether a new player is a hit or flop. By doing this Man United squad might become more competitive next season and also the chances of them finishing in a Champions League spot might increase. And taking it all into the account Man United have a good squad with a perfect blend of experienced and inexperienced player who only require professional grooming.
