Celtic Player Ratings vs St. Johnstone – Here’s how the Hoops fared

Scottish League Cup holders Celtic held their nerves to beat St. Johnstone by a margin of 1-0, a goal which was scored in the 83rd minute. Striker Leigh Griffiths became the saviour for the Hoops when he turned in from six yards to give a match-winning lead.

Brendan Rodgers’ men really struggled to put passes together to create goalscoring opportunities. It was very fortunate that Griffiths was there inside the six-yard box when the chance arrived. Hence, it is pretty evident that even after winning this game, the worrying state of the team hasn’t changed.

Celtic Player Ratings

Scott Bain (6)

Wasn’t tested. The backup shot-stopper was calm and composed whenever the situation arose.

Mikael Lustig (7)

Tried hard to move forward and create chances for the team. Missed a free header moments before the goal was eventually scored.

Dedryck Boyata

Dedryck Boyata (5)

The Belgian was comfortable throughout the game but couldn’t hold his nerve at the end as he abused the referee and got sent off.

Kristoffer Ajer (5)

Started in place of Jack Hendry but got subbed off in the 34th minute due to a knock. Such a shame!

Kieran Tierney (7)

Just like his full-back partner, Tierney tried his best to move forward and help the team from the wide areas.

Scott Brown (6)

The experienced midfielder couldn’t really go up a gear when it was required against a deep defending team.

Oliver Ntcham

Olivier Ntcham (7)

One of the few players who really gave everything in trying to create an opening. Ntcham looked penetrative with his passing and dangerous with his long-range shooting.

James Forrest (6.5)

Another player who tried to force the issue, but the quality was sometimes lacking.

Callum McGregor (7.5)

McGregor was present everywhere in dangerous situations to either create a chance or get at the end of one. Was unlucky not to score a goal today.

Odsonne Edouard (5.5)

Created an early chance for his striker partner Griffiths, only for the latter to miss. After that, the Frenchman went missing in the game, which was disappointing.

Leigh Griffiths

Leigh Griffiths (7)

Missed a few good chances in the game but ultimately, it was his goal which won Celtic the game. A mixed bag fortunes.

Substitutes

Jack Hendry (Subbed on after 34 mins) (6)

He was error-prone in the last gam, but due to Ajer’s injury, he had to come on earlier than expected. Wasn’t tested defensively, however, he still didn’t look comfortable.

Lewis Morgan (Subbed on after 65 mins) (5)

Struggled to create the impactful moment his team badly needed.

Tomas Rogic (Subbed on after 75 mins) (4)

Replaced an impressive McGregor and couldn’t replicate what the latter had done for the first 75 minutes.
