Tottenham Hotspur were condemned to a second loss in two Champions League games as they were beaten 4-2 by Barcelona at Wembley. Lionel Messi scored twice in a fantastic display. Spurs couldn’t live with it at times, especially in the first half.
The second half was more open as the home team had to chase after being 0-2 down at the interval. Harry Kane and Eric Lamela scored to make things interesting, however, a certain player named Lionel Messi came up trumps in the end.
Made a mistake which allowed Barca to score the first goal inside two minutes. No chance for the other three goals but the Frenchman was twitchy.
Looked nervous and error-prone throughout the game. Jordi Alba ripped him apart.
Was booked very early on in the game and struggled defensively. The Belgian was out of position for Messi’s second goal.
Another player who looked very shaky at the back. Improved as the game wore on, but Spurs had conceded three by then.
One of Tottenham’s better defenders on the night. His passing was off-radar though.
Made few vital interceptions but getting a yellow card early on forced him to walk a tightrope.
The young midfielder showed why he can be a long-term midfield player at the club.
His pace threatened the opposition but he didn’t have a clinical edge, which didn’t help.
Probably the best Tottenham player on the pitch. Scored and assisted one to get his team back into the game. A lively performer on the night.
The South Korean struggled to really impact the game. Maybe the international hangover is still ruling him.
Worked very hard and got his reward when he scored to get the team back into the game. Barca defenders couldn’t deal with him in certain situations.
Brought on to add more solidity and security to the midfield.
Had a great chance soon after he came on. Couldn’t get to Trippier’s pass which opened up the space for Barca’s fourth.
