Predicted Chelsea line-up to face the title-chasing Manchester City

Chelsea are coming into this fixture on the back of a motivating home victory over 20th-placed Huddersfield Town, which would’ve certainly lowered the scepticism surrounding the team.

They came out 5-0 victors and made things look comfortable as they swept the strugglers away, with both Eden Hazard and Gonzalo Higuain picking up braces.

This game is a must-win for the Blues if they are to retain the 4th spot. With a considerable advantage over Arsenal and Manchester United in terms of goal difference, even a 1-0 win will ensure that stay in the Champions League spots for the time being.

Team News

Maurizio Sarri’s squad looks to be in top shape going into what is going to be a decisive month for Chelsea’s season.

The only absentee is Marco Van Ginkel. With Loftus-Cheek coming back from his injury and featuring as a substitute against the Terriers, Chelsea have a healthy squad available for this clash.

Probable Chelsea XI

Formation: 4-3-3

Manager: Maurizio Sarri

GK – Kepa Arizzabalaga

He was never really tested by Huddersfield at the weekend but his footwork and reactions have been excellent.

RB – César Azpilicueta

Azpilicueta is slowly becoming a very good attacking outlet for Chelsea unlike the last few seasons where everything was happening down the left.

RCB – Antonio Rudiger

After getting a rest at the weekend, expect the dominant German to slot back into the defence to try and stop Aguero.

LCB – David Luiz

The defensive fragilities aside, his long balls and quick releases will be crucial to Chelsea breaking down this adamant City defence.

LB – Marcos Alonso

Alonso hasn’t shown himself in the best light over the last few weeks but against serious opposition like City, Sarri wouldn’t risk Emerson.

CDM – Jorginho

His passing and movement were better in the game against Huddersfield and Sarri will be hoping he gets it right again at the Etihad.

RCM – N’Golo Kante

The key man in the midfield for Chelsea, his defensive work is unquestionable and he also got two assists against the Terriers and will be looking to feed Higuain whenever possible.

LCM – Mateo Kovacic

The Croatian didn’t start the emphatic win at the weekend and should start this key game looking to bring more control in the middle of the park.

RW – Willian

He was as good as all the other players at the weekend and should keep his spot. He could be subbed off to be replaced by Pedro late in the game.

ST – Gonzalo Higuain

With two stunning goals, Higuain announced himself in style but if he’s able to deliver against arguably the strongest team in the league, then Chelsea fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

LW – Eden Hazard

The one player who can change the game in the blink of an eye, Hazard has scored some brilliant goals against City and their win in the reverse fixture will certainly give him confidence as well.
