Predicted Manchester United line-up to face Chelsea in the Premier League

A patchy Manchester United visit second-placed Chelsea to resume their Premier League campaign after the international break. Jose Mourinho’s men did miraculously well to turn a two-goal deficit against Newcastle United and win the game. However, the first-half performance in that match was nothing short of a disaster.

An away game against one of the form teams in the league is not easy anyway, let alone for a team short on confidence. Mourinho needs to get things right or taste a defeat at Stamford Bridge, something which he has experienced in last two visits.

Team News

Ander Herrera and Marcos Rojo are back in training and will be touch and go for this game. Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay would probably find it difficult to gain fitness before the London trip. Luke Shaw is most certainly out for this game.

Probable Manchester United XI

Formation: 4-3-3

Manager: Jose Mourinho

David de Gea (GK)

The Spaniard hasn’t been at his best this season but he still remains to be one of the key players in the team.

David de Gea

Antonio Valencia (RB)

Diogo Dalot is a viable option but the experience of Valencia would be a vital aspect in a tough away game like this.

Chris Smalling (CB)

The Englishman was poor against Newcastle in every sense. The manager would be hoping for a better output.

Victor Lindelof (CB)

With Eric Bailly not looking settled this season, expect Lindelof to partner Smalling on Saturday.

Ashley Young (LB)

With Shaw out, Young should switch to left-back after horrendously getting exposed at right-back a fortnight ago.

Marouane Fellaini

Marouane Fellaini (CDM)

To thwart the aerial threat of Olivier Giroud, Mourinho might deploy Fellaini in the deeper role to mark the Frenchman. With Matic and McTominay out, the Portuguese is left with no choice as well.

Fred (RCM)

The Brazilian has to be disciplined against an imposing team like Chelsea. He has to perform well in this game.

Paul Pogba (LCM)

Pogba’s performance in this game could be a crucial factor. Mourinho and Manchester United would hope for the Frenchman to be at his best.

Alexis Sanchez (LW)

Sanchez came off the bench to score the winner against Newcastle, which is certain to instil some confidence in him. However, he is yet to show his true qualities this season.

Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku (ST)

The Belgian has been in good form for his country but not for his club. He generally struggles when there is an away game against a big team. He should be more agile and incisive in his decision-making in front of the goal.

Marcus Rashford (RW)

The Englishman scored against Spain on Monday to regain his scoring touch. He is expected to start ahead of Anthony Martial on Saturday.
