Predicted Southampton line-up to face Bournemouth in the Premier League

Despite last season’s shortcomings, Southampton have once again struggled to make an impact in the league this season. The Saints have picked up just 5 points from their opening 8 games and succumbed to a loss against Chelsea last weekend.

Southampton come up against an in-form Bournemouth team in the league this season. The Cherries are currently flying high under Eddie Howe this season and will pose a stern test for Mark Hughes’ men.

Team News

The Saints will have to make do without Alex McCarthy in goal. Stuart Armstrong is also still out injured.

Probable Southampton XI

Manager: Mark Hughes

Formation: 3-4-2-1

Angus Gunn (GK)

The new signing could be handed his first Premier League start for the club with McCarthy out injured.

Wesley Hoedt (RCB)

Hoedt has looked good in a back-three this season but needs to show more consistency in his performances.

Maya Yoshida (CB)

It could be because of a lack of game time but Yoshida didn’t look comfortable at all in the previous game, although he should start once again.

Jan Bednarek (LCB)

Bednarek has been good at the back but Southampton have been fragile overall and have to work as a unit.

Cedric Soares (RWB)

Soares has flourished as a wing-back under Mark Hughes. His raids down the flank have been very fruitful.

Mario Lemina (RCM)

Lemina’s set-pieces are vital to this team and so is his defensive work rate in the middle of the park.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (LCM)

The midfielder has been impressive with his passing and distribution in the middle of the park.

Ryan Bertrand (LWB)

Bertrand has been extremely consistent for the Saints over the last year and will surely continue on the left flank.

Shane Long (RAM)

Gabbiadini has just been poor over the last few months and Long will replace him for this game.

Nathan Redmond (LAM)

Redmond has failed to live up to the standards this season. He should nevertheless continue on the left-hand side of the advanced midfield.

Danny Ings (ST)

Ings has been excellent for the Saints so far after making the move from Liverpool. He will lead the line for this match.
