Predicted Manchester City Line-up To Face West Brom In The EFL Cup

Manchester City will travel to the Hawthorns to take on Tony Pulis’ West Bromwich Albion in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The Citizens are in hot form coming into the game, after a week that saw them score goals in huge numbers. Following their 5-0 thrashing of Liverpool, they defeated Feyenoord 4-0 in the UEFA Champions League before hammering Watford 6-0 at the Vicarage Road on Saturday in the Premier League. Pep Guardiola’s side are playing some scintillating football and he would want his team to continue in the same vein of form against the Baggies.

Team News

The only injury concern for the manager is that of captain Vincent Kompany, who is recuperating from a calf injury. Expect Guardiola to ring in the changes for the game though, with a number of squad players expected to get a look in on Wednesday.

Here’s how the Citizens could take the field against West Brom:

Manager: Pep Guardiola

Formation: 4-1-4-1

Claudio Bravo (GK)

The Chilean has just played 45 mins of football this season, coming on as a sub for Ederson, against Liverpool. Could be handed his first start of the season, against West Brom.

Danilo (RB)

The Brazilian has looked impressive in each start he has been given this term. Should start ahead of Kyle Walker in this cup tie.

Danilo

John Stones (CB)

The Englishman is finally showing why City shelled out the big bucks for him. Will keep his place in the heart of the defence.

Eliaquim Mangala (CB)

The Frenchman has been given a second shot to prove himself at City. Guardiola will look to give him a start on Tuesday.

Benjamin Mendy (LB)

The former Monaco man has had a very good initiation to life in England. Should complete the backline for the Citizens by starting at left-back.

Yaya Toure (DM)

The Ivory Coast international hasn’t played a single minute of football this term, but the manager hinted at a possible start for him in the cup game. Could come in to replace Fernandinho as the deepest central midfielder.

Yaya Toure

Bernardo Silva (RW)

The Portuguese has just started two games across all competitions following his arrival from Monaco. Could get his third start of the season.

Ilkay Gundogan (CM)

The German international made his first appearance of the season from the bench on Saturday and could be handed his first start at the Hawthorns.

Phil Foden (CM)

The 17-year old has been earmarked as a special talent and enjoyed a brilliant pre-season with the Citizens. Guardiola might look at the cup competition as a great opportunity to further aid his development.

Leroy Sane

Leroy Sane (LW)

The 21-year old is another player who has had just one start this term and might feature from kick-off, against Tony Pulis’ outfit.

Gabriel Jesus (ST)

The Brazilian was withdrawn after the hour mark against Watford, while Sergio Aguero played the full ninety minutes, thus hinting a start for Jesus in this cup encounter.

Raghavendra Goudar

Mechanical Engineer, avid reader and a football fanatic.
