How Arsenal Can Fit Aubameyang Into Their Star-studded Playing XI

Arsenal have almost landed Gabon international Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to their ranks after already having made a stellar swap to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Aubameyang and Borussia Dortmund have struggled to reach their fans’ expectations and have been way off colour.

Arsene Wenger has almost completed the deal, which depends on the striker’s court dates and timings. The striker desperately needs a fresh start after all the claims and accuses. A fee of £60m is under discussion and he could wear the famous No. 14 jersey at the Emirates Stadium, according to reports.

More On The Player

Aubameyang came through the ranks of Milan’s youth system in 2007. Sadly, after three years of stay, he couldn’t manage to play a single league game. He was loaned out to four other clubs including Dijon, Lille, Monaco and Saint Etienne. Saint Etienne bought him in 2011, for whom he scored 41 goals in just 97 appearances, with 21 of them coming in his last season for them. Following his stunning performances, he was signed by Borussia Dortmund.

Since then, he has only got better. In his first season for the Bundesliga giants, he bagged 16 goals. Then he’s scored 25, 39 and 40 goals in the following 3 seasons respectively. For Gabon too, the striker has scored 23 goals in 56 caps. Aubameyang is one of the best finishers in the modern day game, which is clear from his records for Dortmund. His biggest attribute is pace and he easily finds spaces inside the box.

Alexandre Lacazette and Mesut Ozil

The Gabonese can easily get past players, especially with the sharpest of movement. His off the ball movement is probably one of the best in the world. Also, the 28-year-old works very hard without the ball and is always a menace to any defence. He is an indirect set-piece threat and an able poacher too. One can just put the ball into the box and expect him to instinctively finish it off in style, which means that he attacks the ball well and is always at the right place.

Here’s How Arsenal Can Fit Aubameyang and Lacazette In The Same XI:

Alexandre Lacazette is Arsenal’s club record signing and he arrived at the start of the season. So if the Gunners sign Aubameyang as well, it would be of no use to not play their most expensive player. They need to figure out a way to pair the players up and here’s how they can do it.

4-2-3-1 or 3-4-3

When Wenger plays his wider formations, Lacazette can shift to the left – the Alexis Sanchez position. The Frenchman is a fine forward down the left too and can utilise his left foot to cross or narrow down and allow the full-backs to play it into the box. Here, Aubameyang can be the lone forward. If they play with Iwobi down the left, Lacazette can play in behind the striker in the 4-2-3-1 formation.

4-1-3-2

If Arsenal decide to play two strikers, then the to-be teammates can run riot from the highest part of the pitch. This formation would be the most suitable to do something different in terms of the number of bodies in the box. As it is, no one wins the Premier League with repeated tactics. Here, Granit Xhaka, Jack Wilshere or Elneny can occupy the centre of the pitch. Anybody who starts can sit back to dictate the play and bring their passing range into effect.

Aaron Ramsey would be at his destructive best if he occupies an advanced role to construct the attack with the help of his vision. He has the ability to tear defences apart. Henrikh Mkhitaryan can occupy the No.10 role too when needed and since he is capable of playing on the right-wing, he can be slotted in that role as well. Mesut Özil and Alex Iwobi can occupy either wing.
