Huddersfield Town opinion: Should the Terriers sign Ivan Cavaleiro?

According to reports from English news outlet the Examiner Live, former Premier League side Huddersfield Town are keen on a move for Ivan Cavaleiro.

The Terriers are looking for reinforcements ahead of the start of their Championship season and believe that the Portuguese man will be able to help them moving forward.

The 25-year-old joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2016 and made a decent impact for the club in his first season. He would go on to finish the season by contributing to 11 goals in all competitions.

However, it was his second season that really saw him flourish, scoring 9 goals and creating 12 in the Championship.

Given Wolves’ dominance in the Championship last term, that number should come as no surprise, but Cavaleiro’s record in the Premier League wasn’t good. The 25-year-old did make 23 appearances but struggled by only contributing to four goals.

However, that total would have put the Portuguese international amongst the top two for Huddersfield. It shows just how bad the Terriers’ season was, with January arrival Karlan Grant finishing as their top scorer with four goals.

Aaron Mooy finished second alongside centre-back Zanka which more than anything showcases their issues this season. Not only did Huddersfield fail to score any goals, but they also conceded at will, which played a part in their downfall.

In the end, it saw them earn just 16 points with 3 wins and 7 draws but at the same time, conceding 76 goals in the process. Only Fulham managed to let more fly past them but that didn’t matter last season with the attackers firing.

This season, they failed miserably with Adama Dakhaby, Steve Mounie, Laurent Depoitre and Collin Quaner scoring just 2 goals. This is exactly why someone like Ivan Cavaleiro can come in and make a big difference, with the 25-year-old flourishing in the Championship.

His versatility and capability to play across the front line will help Huddersfield Town as the season moves on. Either way, it’s a move that the club have to make, with them letting the struggling Depoitre go.

Conclusion

Huddersfield Town need Ivan Cavaleiro more than Ivan Cavaleiro needs Huddersfield Town, especially if the Terriers do not want their downfall to continue.

Someone like Cavaleiro will add that speed and clinical ability going forward and as this season has proved, they need that.
