Huddersfield Town opinion: Should the Terriers make a move for Lucas Joao?

English news outlet the Examiner has reported that Huddersfield Town have entered the race for Sheffield Wednesday striker Lucas Joao. The 25-year-old has been in decent form for the club but despite all that, he has only managed to play 39% of the available minutes.

Furthermore, the Birmingham Live had reported earlier in the year that the Owls are open to a move. Clearly, the 25-year-old has struggled in recent weeks to make an impact, having been dropped by manager Steve Bruce.

However, Joao made a goalscoring comeback, netting against Bristol City but despite that, the Portuguese man has only made three appearances in the last 11 games. It shows exactly how well Bruce rates the 25-year-old and why it’s time to move on.

Huddersfield are the first team to have been confirmed as relegated, with the Terriers struggling to make an impact this season. So far, they’ve managed to win just 3 games out of 36, which has led to their decline.

It’s their inability to score goals at a consistent basis that has cost them, with Karlan Grant being their top scorer with four goals. The former Charlton Athletic man only arrived in January, which showcases exactly what the problem has been at Huddersfield.

Barring that, Steve Mounie, Laurent Depoitre and Adama Diakhaby have managed to net two goals all season. Out of the trio, Mounie has netted a large majority of that figure, and it shows why they need someone like Lucas Joao.

If manager Jan Siewart can get the best of him, it would prove to be a great move. So far, the 25-year old’s main issue has been consistency, which is something that the former Borussia Dortmund man can help with.

He’s done exactly that with Karlan Grant, and the youngster has done very well since his move. Furthermore, Lucas Joao is a proven Championship goalscorer, with the 25-year-old netting an average of 8 goals a season, although those aren’t the greatest numbers.

But alongside the likes of Grant and Mounie, it could make a massive difference for the club next season.

Conclusion

Huddersfield Town have had a tough time in the Premier League, and moves for the wrong players have played a big role in their downfall.

They cannot repeat that next season and if they do their troubles could worsen. That being said, adding a striker like Lucas Joao will help them. However, he won’t be their permanent answer.
