Two players Manchester United must sign in the January transfer window

Manchester United have got off to a dismal start in the Premier League this season. One can view the poor results are the aftermath of a forgettable summer transfer window.

Notably, there is immense pressure on Jose Mourinho following his team’s poor start. Manchester United, however, may have just turned a corner after a thrilling second-half comeback against Newcastle United.

With United 2-0 down against Newcastle, another hard defeat was on the cards before a miracle comeback ensued. A 3-2 victory has certainly eased the pressure but Mourinho needs to strengthen certain areas of his squad to compete with the league favourites.

With the January window not far off, it is crucial for the Red Devils to get some quality players on the board to lighten the pain of a disastrous start to the season. Here are two players Mourinho must sign during the winter transfer window to bolster his squad.

Alessio Romagnoli (AC Milan)

According to the ESPN, AC Milan central defender Alessio Romagnoli has emerged as the latest defensive target for Mourinho to solve his team’s defensive woes.

United have been very poor defensively this season, leaking goals at an alarming rate. Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly have massively underperformed so far this season.

They were supposed to be the centre-back pairing to lift the club but that hasn’t been the case. Therefore, it’s time to bring in another defender.

Romagnoli, 23, has earned rave reviews for his solid performances at the back for AC Milan and has established himself as one of the most composed young defenders in Italian football.

A technically gifted centre-back, the Italian is a smooth operator, capable of playing out from back with his excellent passing range. Romagnoli ticks all the boxes for a complete centre-back and Mourinho must go all out in January to sign him.

Nabil Fekir (Lyon)

Following a fantastic 2017/18 campaign with Lyon, Nabil Fekir has become one of the most coveted attackers in Europe. He was named as the Ligue 1 Young player of the season and was recently instrumental in Lyon’s triumph over Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League.

Nabil Fekir

Signing Fekir would be excellent for United as Mourinho’s squad lacks a left-footed right winger. Juan Mata has been deployed on the right wing but he is not a natural winger and lacks the pace to give the full-backs a run for their money.

Fekir, meanwhile, is known for his versatility as he can play as a winger, a no.10 and also a centre-forward. He is a free-kick specialist, a fantastic crosser of the ball, possesses good dribbling abilities, and has superb body control.

Therefore, signing the Frenchman in January would certainly strengthen United’s attack to a great deal.
