Here are 2 things Frank Lampard should do to help Chelsea bounce back against Leicester

Two things Chelsea must do to beat Leicester City on Sunday

Chelsea have endured a slow start to the new Premier League campaign under Frank Lampard, who replaced Maurizio Sarri in the summer after leaving his role at Derby County.

The Blues were thrashed 4-0 by Manchester United in Lampard’s first Premier League match in charge before suffering a defeat on penalties to Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup in midweek.

There were positive signs for Lampard against Liverpool, though, and he’ll hope to see more of that from his side when they take on Leicester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Leicester are a pressing team blessed with some really quick and creative players. Brendan Rodgers likes his team to dominate possession and invite the opposition before hitting hard on the counter-attack.

Lampard will have to be wary of the Foxes’ tactics and after losing two successive games, he could be tempted to ring the changes at the weekend. That being said, let’s take a look at two things Chelsea should do to beat Leicester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

1. Address the defensive problems

Chelsea conceded four goals at Old Trafford before shipping in two goals against Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup. That doesn’t make for good reading and Lampard needs to change things quickly before the mood turns absolutely sore in and around the club.

Following David Luiz’s shock transfer to Arsenal, the Chelsea boss has gone with the defensive partnership of Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen. Both Zouma and Christensen haven’t inspired much confidence, with the former conceding a penalty in the season opener against Manchester United.

Lampard could be tempted to make the changes, especially at the back, and the return of Antonio Rudiger from injury could be massive. The Chelsea boss shouldn’t hesitate to hand the German a start.

2. Start Olivier Giroud and Christian Pulisic again

Lampard made a couple of tweaks to his attack against Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup, bringing in Olivier Giroud and Christian Pulisic for Tammy Abraham and Ross Barkley. And the plan worked wonders as Pulisic set up Giroud for the game’s opening goal in Istanbul.

Pulisic’s movement with and without the ball made Chelsea a more exciting side in midweek. The American is a gifted operator and his link-up play with Giroud was truly amazing to watch at times.

Giroud, on the other hand, is an experienced striker who can be a real handful for the defenders in the box due to his strength and aerial ability.

Lampard should keep the same front three against Leicester, which also includes Pedro. If the front three clicks, they could be enough for the Blues to win all three points against Rodgers’ men.
