Leeds United will look to register their first win under new manager Paul Heckingbottom when they face off against Bristol City at the Elland Road on Saturday.
The Whites dropped out of the top-10 following their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sheffield United last weekend and are without a win since the Boxing Day last year, when they beat Brentford. The new gaffer will be keen on getting things back on track towards the final third of the season to try and achieve a playoff finish come the end of the season.
January deadline day signing Tyler Roberts is out injured for the Yorkshire based outfit, while the trio of Gaetano Berardi, Liam Cooper and Samu Saiz will miss out due to suspension. Defender Luke Ayling has been ruled out for the season and attacker Kemar Roofe is also likely to be absent due to a knock he picked up against the Blades last week.
The German has shown signs of improvement between the sticks and will look to keep a clean sheet against Bristol.
With Ayling and Berardi both ruled out for the game, Stuart Dallas is likely to continue in the makeshift right-back position on Sunday.
In the heart of the defence, Swedish giant Pontus Jansson will look to snuff out any threat that the visitors’ attack might pose.
In the absence of club captain Liam Cooper, young defender Matthew Pennington should continue to partner Jansson at the back.
The January signing should slot in at left-back and look to provide defensive stability and width going forward.
The former Middlesbrough man has shown that he can grow into a vital player for Leeds in his first few games since his winter transfer. A definite starter in the midfield.
The youngster was left out of the loss against Sheffield United, but given how poorly Eunan O’Kane fared against the Blades, Vieira should be reinstated to the starting XI.
The third central midfield slot should be occupied by English midfielder Kalvin Phillips. Will be tasked with providing the drive forward from the middle.
The Macedonian winger will line up on the right flank but will need to up his game if Leeds are to stand a chance of making a strong comeback.
The German striker scored the only goal for the Whites against the Blades and will want to get on the scoresheet against Bristol City as well, having scored against them the last time the two teams met.
With Kemar Roofe likely to miss out, Spanish playmaker Pablo Hernandez is likely to come into the playing XI for Sunday’s game.
