West Ham opinion: Hammers in for John McGinn – Good move?

According to a report in Leicester Live, Premier League rivals Leicester City and West Ham United are interested in making a move for Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn during this transfer window.

The 24-year-old had a great campaign in the Championship after arriving at Villa Park last summer. He was one of the key players in the Villans’ impressive season that ended in them winning the playoff final and returning back to the Premier League.

McGinn played 48 games in all competitions for the club last season and scored nine goals and assisted a further 12, which is a decent return for a player who generally played in central midfield.

Now, both Leicester and West Ham are keeping an eye on him in order to enhance the quality of their squad (h/t Leicester Live). Here’s why the Hammers should beat the Foxes to sign the Scotland international:

Perfect Mark Noble replacement

John McGinn is a versatile central midfield player, who can operate in various positions across the centre of the park. He has played in different positions for Aston Villa and produced high levels of performances throughout the course of the season.

In terms of his attributes, the 24-year-old has a good turn of pace on the ball, is a dynamic figure in central midfield to help the team recover possession, is a good passer of the ball and generally finds himself around the opposition box when the team is attacking.

So, it can be said that if West Ham manage to sign the Scotland international, he could be a perfect Mark Noble replacement for years to come.

With other creative midfielders already in the Hammers’ squad, it would be ideal that they have a hard-working player in the team, who can drive the team forward on every given occasion. McGinn could be that man for them.

Conclusion

All in all, we can conclude by saying that West Ham are right in being in the race to sign John McGinn. They must beat Leicester City and meet the asking price of Aston Villa to get this deal done though.
