Predicted Manchester City Line-up To Face Liverpool In The Champions League

On the cusp of clinching a historic Premier League title win, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will also look to advance further in the UEFA Champions League when they take on fellow English side Liverpool in the 1st leg of the quarterfinals.

The Cityzens had a fairly straightforward round-of-16 tie against Swiss outfit FC Basel, whom they beat 5-2 on aggregate despite losing 2-1 in the second leg at home. In the lead up to the game, the Sky Blues dismantled Everton, beating them 3-1 at the weekend.

However, going up against another Merseyside outfit on Wednesday, Guardiola will be wary of the fact that Liverpool are the only Premier League side to have defeated them this season.

Probable Manchester City XI

Manager: Pep Guardiola

Formation: 4-3-3

Ederson (GK)

The Brazilian international has had a sensational debut campaign with the Citizens, having managed a total of 19 clean sheets from 37 appearances in all competitions.

Kyle Walker (RB)

Since moving to the Etihad Stadium from Tottenham in the summer, Kyle Walker has enhanced his reputation further and has established himself as the best right-back in England.

Vincent Kompany (CB)

The club captain might not exactly be a Guardiola-type player but remains an integral part of the team with his leadership and excellent defensive nous.

Nicolas Otamendi

Nicolas Otamendi (CB)

One of the most improved footballers in the past year, Nicolas Otamendi has reaped great benefits from working under the genius of Guardiola.

Danilo (LB)

The Brazilian full-back hasn’t played regularly for City this term but should be given the responsibility of tying down the dangerous Mo Salah.

Kevin De Bruyne (CM)

Manchester City’s chief architect, the Belgian international has had a hand in 30 goals (11 goals, 19 assists) this season in all competitions.

Fernandinho (DM)

The 32-year-old seasoned campaigner provides the Cityzens with a solid base in the middle and has shown that he can be a goal threat from distance.

David Silva (CM)

De Bruyne’s partner in crime, Spanish maestro David Silva was in his elements against Everton and will look to wreak havoc against the Reds.

Raheem Sterling (RW)

A visit to Anfield for the quarterfinals of the Champions League will no doubt have the England international fired up and raring to go.

Leroy Sane

Gabriel Jesus (ST)

The 20-year-old sensation hasn’t let Aguero’s absence be felt in recent weeks, putting in some fine displays at the tip of the attack. Has scored two in his last two CL appearances.

Leroy Sane (LW)

The German speedster is well and truly coming of age in the ongoing campaign and has already amassed 12 goals and 15 assists in all competitions.
