Go for it Silva – This 26-year-old Portuguese beast could become a Premier League star with Everton

Everton’s spending spree last summer was expected to be enough to secure European football but a disastrous spell led to the dismissal of manager Ronald Koeman. He was succeeded by Sam Allardyce and fortunately for the club, the experienced Englishman guided them to an 8th-place league finish.

However, his playing style was often criticized which eventually led to an exit at the end of the season. Now, the Toffees have appointed Marco Silva as their new boss and it goes without saying that the club still require some new additions this summer.

More than anything else, Everton are in need of a midfielder who can offer physicality and control the flow of the game with vision and technique. Hence, it is interesting to note that the club are reportedly chasing Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho.

Carvalho is known for playing a similar role and Sporting’s eagerness to offload the Portuguese international should lead to a cut-price deal – much lower than the £40m they turned down from Chinese Super League side Tianjin Quanjian over the winter.

William Carvalho

Carvalho had previously played under Silva when he was in charge of the Portuguese outfit during the 2014-15 season. The 26-year-old was also instrumental in a defensive midfield role for Portugal in their stunning UEFA European Championship triumph a couple of years back.

As far as Everton are concerned, Idrissa Gueye is a decent option in central midfield but he seems a tad attack-oriented. And to balance it out, a player like Carvalho could work wonders.

Carvalho was also chased by West Ham United last summer but a move did not occur following a series of events that took place between the two clubs.

Now, Everton have a brilliant chance of signing him and they must grab the opportunity with both hands.

Having managed Carvalho before, Silva should be delighted at the prospect of a possible reunion this summer. His job will be anything but a cakewalk and in such a situation, it would be helpful to have a familiar face in the mix.

Nevertheless, a player of Carvalho’s stature will enhance the overall quality of Everton’s game, provided he manages to adapt to Premier League football. His game-reading traits and calmness will certainly help him taste success in English football.
