Go for it Silva – This 2-time PL champion could be the man to solve Everton’s goalscoring woes

Why Edin Dzeko would be a perfect fit for Marco Silva’s Everton

According to a report from Il Messaggero, Everton want to snap up AS Roma striker Edin Dzeko in the January transfer window.

Everton have been struggling for goals of late, with the likes of Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin failing to deliver the bare minimum expected out of them. Oumar Niasse has joined Cardiff City on loan and that means the Toffees are one man short already.

Due to the lack of productivity up front, Silva has used Richarlison as a centre-forward but the Brazilian’s best position lies on the left wing. The Toffees are clearly crying out for a No.9 to lead the line just a year after signing Cenk Tosun from Besiktas.

Marco Silva

With the search for a centre-forward apparently continuing for Everton, Marco Silva is eyeing a move for Edin Dzeko. But the main question arises – will the Bosnian be a good fit for Everton?

Edin Dzeko, 32, twice won the Premier League title with Manchester City in 2012 and 2014 before leaving for AS Roma a year later.

He has been a goal-scoring machine in Italy, firing goals at a consistent rate for Roma. The Bosnian is now into the last 18 months of his contract at the Stadio Olimpico, meaning Everton will have to stump up good money to land him this month.

And the Toffees should go all out to land Edin Dzeko. Silva needs a tried-and-tested Premier League goal-scorer and the Bosnian fits the bill perfectly.

At 32, he may be at the wrong end of his career but his footballing intelligence and composure in front of the goal are non-perishable qualities. He is a proven striker who can provide excellent link-up play and threat during set-pieces.

Dzeko is extremely effective at playing as a lone striker in the attack and possesses the ability to terrify the opposition defence with his clever movement off the ball and sharp turns.

While the 32-year-old has the killer instincts, awareness and intelligence of a poacher inside the penalty area, he is equally adept at making runs behind the backline to get on the end of through balls and crosses.

Everton have enough pace and dynamism in the attack but currently lack a reliable goal-scorer. Dzeko would exactly be the one to solve their goal-scoring woes and flourish in an attack that comprises Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Bernard.

All in all, the highly-experienced Bosnian would be a massive signing for the Merseysiders in their chase for a top-eight finish.
