Go for it Sarri – Loaning £70m star to London rivals could do Chelsea a world of good

Why Chelsea must loan Alvaro Morata to West Ham United

Chelsea signed Alvaro Morata for a fee in the region of £70million from Real Madrid last summer. Back then, he struggled to rack up adequate first-team appearances for Los Blancos and his move to the Blues was a great way for him to get back to scoring ways and nail down a spot in Spain’s national team.

Fast forward a year later and things only seem to have worsened for Morata at Stamford Bridge. In fact, Daily Star has reported that the player could be sent on loan to West Ham United.

Although he hit the ground running under Antonio Conte last season, his momentum came to a stuttering halt as the previous campaign progressed. He began to misfire, shoot wide and just failed to make an impact.

As a result, Chelsea’s overall performances took a nosedive as there was no solid goal-scorer in the squad. Of course, the likes of Eden Hazard, Pedro and Willian chipped in with whatever they could while Morata was a mere spectator.

And hence, he missed out on a spot in Spain’s World Cup team. The new season has not been any different for the 25-year-old.

Over the summer, the Londoners went through a managerial change as Maurizio Sarri was brought in from Napoli. The move has worked out since Chelsea have made a great start to the new season and are still unbeaten after five games. However, it is the same old story for Morata, who has once again failed to make an impact.

In four Premier League starts so far, Morata has just scored one goal. And it is not just his lack of goals that seems worrisome.

When on the pitch, the Spaniard has visibly struggled to adapt to Sarri’s new system. And the new boss showed no hesitation in utilizing Olivier Giroud as the central striker.

The former Arsenal attacker is impactful as a super substitute but even when handed a start, Giroud is resilient and powerful enough to do something on the pitch.

Clearly, Morata has fallen out of favour at Chelsea and suffice to say, he is behind Giroud in the pecking. As far as West Ham United are concerned, they have made a less than ideal start to the ongoing season.

Despite signing an abundance of players in the summer, Manuel Pellegrini’s side has faced difficulties when it comes to scoring goals.

Although Marko Arnautovic is the first-choice at West Ham, moving to East London on loan could provide Morata with a much-needed change, thus helping him revive his career.
