Newcastle United are reportedly interested in securing a January loan move for Chelsea starlet Charly Musonda. It comes as no surprise that Rafa Benitez is keen on securing a temporary deal for the young Belgian. He is an out-and-out attacker and can play across a variety of roles up front – and that is an area which the Magpies could use some reinforcements. Although a lot of clubs are interested in acquiring his services, Newcastle will be looking to leapfrog their competition and sign him first.
Ross Barkley’s arrival at Stamford Bridge will undoubtedly hamper Musonda’s chances of playing in the first-team. At 21 years of age, he has shown tremendous potential in the past but to continue his growth and develop his skills further, Musonda will be in dire need of regular game time. That is something he can only hope for at Chelsea, thus making a loan move to join Newcastle seem like the ideal deal for all parties involved.
The Magpies were interested in signing him over the summer but a deal did not materialise then. Now, however, it seems like the time is right for Newcastle to revive their interest in him and see it through. They started the current season on a strong note and were even tipped for a top-6 finish but their performances have lacked attacking intent lately. Currently sitting at 13th place, they might look safe but they need to start winning games from now, in order to break into the top-10 once more.
They certainly cannot hope to achieve that with their current set of attackers since they look frustratingly underwhelming. The likes of Jacob Murphy and Matt Ritchie have been inconsistent for a good majority of the season.
Rolando Aarons is yet to settle into the team and it will be quite some time before he can play regularly. Christian Atsu has impressed on certain occasions but he has not proven to be all that reliable. Hence, a move for Musonda could work wonders for Newcastle.
He can play on either flank and can also be deployed as an attacking midfielder, which should open up a lot of opportunities for him. He may lack Premier League experience but he knows how to work on the field after having spent successful loan deals with Real Betis. Also, his displays for Chelsea’s youth teams have been rather attractive and Newcastle must do all they can to ensure they sign him this January.
