Tottenham Opinion: Should Spurs re-sign Nabil Bentaleb?

Nabil Bentaleb has spoken about his time at Spurs and how he wishes he was still a part of the North London outfit. The now 24-year-old left the club when he was 20 and has matured during his time at Schalke. Should Tottenham bring him back in the summer?

Bentaleb moved to England at the age of 16 when he joined the Spurs academy. He was promoted to the first team at the age of 19 and made his debut against Southampton as a second-half substitute.

Bentaleb missed 3 months of action due to an Ankle injury and lost his place in the Tottenham squad. The Algerian reveals that he had arguments with Mauricio Pochettino about the lack of playing time but hold no grudge against the Argentine boss.

Bentaleb moved to Schalke on loan in the summer of 2015, a deal which was made permanent in the following season. The 24-year old has been an important part of the Royal Blues since his switch but has expressed his desire to return to the club that gave him a chance as a youngster.

Bentaleb was already a good player before leaving Tottenham but has shown real maturity in his time in the Bundesliga. The midfielder has improved his range of passing and is a lot more disciplined on and off the ball compared to his time in the Premier League.

Tottenham have a void to fill in the centre of midfield after the departure of Mousa Dembele to China. Bentaleb’s style of play is very similar to that of the Belgian and he would be an ideal replacement for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Bentaleb received a lot of love from Tottenham fans after his brilliant performance against Manchester City in the Champions League. The midfielder converted 2 penalties to give Schalke a 2-1 lead against Pep Guardiola’s side before losing 3-2.

Bentaleb has missed just one game in the Bundesliga so far this season and has 3 goals and an assist to his name.

The Algerian has averaged 1.4 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 1.1 shots per game in his 22 games for Schalke this season. The former Spurs man is also an asset in the air winning 1.7 aerial duels per 90 minutes.

Conclusion

Nabil Bentaleb would be a fantastic addition to the Tottenham side and would provide much-needed competition to Dier and Winks in central midfield.

Bentaleb will also improve a great deal under Mauricio Pochettino, a manager who he has great respect for. Tottenham should move in for the Algerian in the summer and bring him back to the place he calls home.
