According to Metro, Tottenham Hotspur are preparing a very late move for Celta Vigo midfielder and former Arsenal target Stanislav Lobotka, a defensive midfielder playing in the La Liga. Spurs are yet to make a signing this summer, and they could be keen to get this deal over the line before the deadline.
The Mirror has stated that the 23-year-old is rated around £31m by the Spanish club. The Slovakian international has been linked with a Premier League move this summer, as Arsenal targeted him.
Here’s why signing Lobotka will be a fantastic move by Tottenham.
Lobotka is a proper defensive midfielder with the attributes to cover the ground and shield the back-line imperiously. He can pass the ball forward with incisive accuracy, at a completion rate of 91%, a number comparable to some of the best deeper-lying playmakers in Europe.
The 23-year-old also has an eye for picking key through balls and averaged 0.3 per game in the league last season.
The Slovakian doesn’t shy away from making tackles, doing so at a rate of 1.7 per game and makes 1 crucial interception per game. He is a proper nuisance for the attackers between the defensive lines.
Hence, Lobotka has the qualities to become one of the key figures for Spurs in the years to come. With the uncertain future of Toby Alderweireld along the line, manager Mauricio Pochettino might have to use Eric Dier in central defence.
This leaves him with Victor Wanyama as the only defensive midfield option, which can be risky given the fact that the Kenyan is injury-prone. Hence, signing Lobotka would make sense in terms of depth.

Tottenham have done nothing in this transfer window to convince the fans that they are going to challenge on all fronts this season.
Getting Lobotka will add steel in the midfield and passing accuracy in deeper positions. It will aid Pochettino to build the team around the Slovakian, playing the likes of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli alongside him in a midfield three.
