Go For It Christiansen: Signing This Energetic Midfielder Could Drag Leeds To The Top Of The Championship

Why Josh Vela Would Be A Good Signing For Leeds United

Leeds United have been linked with a number of midfielders recently before the start of the January transfer window madness. So despite the presence of O’Kane, Anita, Vieira and Phillips in there to name four, Thomas Christiansen clearly isn’t overly happy.

Bolton Wanderers’ Josh Vela appears to be a target, with the 23-year-old being a regular starter for Phil Parkinson’s team, though it appears he could be sold off to help Wanderers’ dire financial situation. Premier League side Brighton are also monitoring the situation regarding Vela, while Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County have also been alerted to the potential availability of Vela.

The midfielder has 18 months left on his contract at Bolton, though the club seem to realise that he wouldn’t be quite as big a miss as some may think, given that he has only made 10 appearances this season due to his two-month absence due to an ankle injury.

That being the case, Bolton wouldn’t feel that their current situation in terms of squad availability has been weakened massively and they can also bring in some much-needed cash.

The Trotters were unable to sign any new players in the summer transfer window due to a transfer embargo being placed on them and as such, they started in disastrous form, losing a game at home to Leeds United in which Kalvin Phillips was the star.

Josh Vela was strongly linked with a move to Liverpool just two years ago and potentially still has his best years ahead of him. So any move at what would essentially be at cut-price should be encouraged.

Funds appear to be available anyway, but another bonus for the club to emerge on that front in recent days has been the news that Danny Rose’s transfer to Manchester United for £50million could very much be on, meaning Leeds would take a nice chunk of that as a sell-on fee, having brought the full-back through their academy before he made it big at Tottenham.

Salford-born Vela could be just what Leeds need; an energetic midfield player, who, when fit, can prove to be Premier League class and could drag the club kicking and screaming towards to the top two of this division by the time April rolls around.

It’ll be interesting to see what develops over the next few weeks.
