Go For It Bilic – West Ham Should Complete A Deal To Land This Inter Milan Defender Asap

Italy is well renowned for producing top centre backs who are astute in the way they play. Once heralded as the next big centre back in Italy, Andrea Ranocchia’s career hasn’t gone as planned so far. He started out at various small Italian clubs before moving on to Genoa and then Inter Milan. At Inter, big things were expected of the Italian international.

Ranocchia is known as a towering, strong and physically imposing center back with good knowledge of the game. He is also adept at reading how a game is going and he also usually times his tackles to perfection. In his earlier Inter Milan days, he was truly a dominant force and even went onto captain the Nerazzurri on many occasions.

All that has now faded away as Ranocchia struggles to get into the first team at a club where he was once the captain. Poor form and repetitive injuries have been the reason for this ousting and it doesn’t look like there is a way back for him in the Inter Milan first team. The other center backs in the squad are obviously trusted by the manager and getting back into the first team fold could be a very difficult task for Ranocchia.

With such unrest surrounding his situation at the club, there are obviously bound to be a few suitors. Clubs in the Premier league are indeed beginning to take notice of him as he continues to warm the reserves bench at Inter Milan. Given that he is a strongly built and is 6’5, he could be tailor-made for the Premier League.

West Ham and Watford are the two clubs that seemed to have shown interest in him. Watford are managed by former Inter Milan manager Walter Mazzari, who is aware of Ranocchia’s talents. But it is West Ham who looks to be the serious contenders for Ranocchia’s signature. The Hammers have been defensively fragile this term and are on the lookout for defensive enforcements that will add defensive solidarity to their make up and take them up the Premier League table.

The London Stadium based team have only Winston Reid, James Collins and Angelo Ogbonna to call upon to play at centre back. Reece Oxford seems to get opportunities once in a blue moon, so it’s only fair that West Ham adds to their defensive ranks in this transfer window. Ranocchia is tall, well-built and could just be what West Ham need to add solidarity to their defense.

Since West Ham are a team that like to make the most out of set-piece situations, Ranocchia’s presence could be very beneficial, hence it’s not just in his defensive duties that he will need to perform. Ranocchia also has valuable experience of playing for the Italian national team for a span of 6 years and this will undoubtedly help him if he makes the move to the Premier League.

Angelo Ogbonna is a fellow compatriot that has done decently well since signing for West Ham from Juventus. He could help Ranocchia settle in well too and this could be a very decisive factor if he is enticed into switching the San Siro for The London Stadium.

James Collins is currently 33 and might have only a few more years left in him. In those circumstances, the signing of Ranocchia would come as a welcome boost in West Ham’s attempts to restore some parity to the poor season they have had so far.
