Go for it Bielsa – Why Leeds must do everything to complete a loan deal for this well-built Tottenham ace

Share

According to a report by the  Yorkshire Post, Leeds United are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur starlet Cameron Carter-Vickers on loan this summer.

The 20-year-old spent the first half of the 2017/18 campaign on loan at Sheffield United before joining Ipswich Town on another loan deal in January. He put in several impressive performances for the Championship outfits.

A central defender by trade, he could prove to be beneficial for Leeds in the upcoming season. With new manager Marcelo Bielsa at the helm, the club must strive to put up a solid title challenge next season.

To do so, strengthening the defence will be of utmost importance for the Whites. Bielsa and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino’s relationship goes way back and the former could use his connection to make the move happen.

Cameron Carter-Vickers

The current Spurs boss played under Bielsa’s guidance in the Argentina national team and it remains to be seen if the 62-year-old is able to bring Carter-Vickers to Elland Road this summer. But given the gravity of the upcoming season, is the youngster strong enough to boost Leeds’ promotion chances?

Over the course of the last season, the youngster scored a solitary goal and provided 2 assists in 34 Championship games for Sheffield United and Ipswich Town combined. He is particularly strong in the air as he won an average of 3.4 aerial duels per game. As far as his defensive work is concerned, Carter-Vickers averaged 1.2 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 5.1 clearances per game.

These numbers show that the centre-back has ample potential, meaning he could work wonders for Leeds next season.

As things stand, it is quite evident that Carter-Vickers is unlikely to secure a spot for himself in Tottenham’s first-team anytime soon. Pochettino has the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld as his first-choice centre-back options.

Furthermore, the manager can also count on Eric Dier to play as a central defender when required. With so many people ahead of him in the pecking order at White Hart Lane, the obvious choice for Carter-Vickers would be to head out on loan in search of regular game time.

Despite being so young, he boasts of a decent amount of experience, and his statistics are quite impressive as well. Carter-Vickers could work wonders under Bielsa’s guidance at Elland Road.

And it goes without saying that his skills would boost Leeds’ chances of making a solid promotion push next term. Thus, Bielsa must actively pursue a deal for the youngster and snap him up on a loan deal.
