Leeds United have made an inspirational start under new manager Marcelo Bielsa who seems determined to take the club to the next level. The Peacocks are yet to be beaten this season and are currently on top of the table with a total of 15 points from the opening 7 games.
Hot on their heels are Brentford, Bristol City, and Middlesbrough but the Whites have emerged as the front-runners to lift the title in May. Bielsa’s side have been playing an expansive and attractive style of football.
Leeds have so far scored a total of 15 goals in the league this season with just West Brom above them on 16. Bielsa will be left worried after striker Patrick Bamford’s injury, which is set to keep him out for 4 months.
Bamford, who joined the club for £7million in July, sustained a posterior cruciate ligament injury playing in an Under-23 fixture against Bristol City at Elland Road. Leeds do have Kemar Roofe fit and firing but the Whites are definitely going to need another forward who can provide competition in the squad.
Marcelo Bielsa could consider a move for veteran striker Jermain Defoe. The 35-year-old currently plies his trade with Premier League outfit Bournemouth and is one of the most decorated footballers in the Premier League.
A born goalscorer and a pure finisher, Defoe has been racking up the goals since his days at West Ham United. He has scored a total of 162 Premier League goals and has provided 33 assists in 493 appearances.
The striker is ranked 7th in the all-time Premier League top-scorers’ list and has seamlessly produced the goods for every team he has played for. (Stats Courtesy – Premier League)
Defoe is an experienced striker who is capable of functioning in a number of systems. He is extremely clinical in front of goal and was once one of the most sought-after strikers in England. Jermain Defoe definitely possesses the quality to flourish under Marcelo Bielsa.

His age may restrict him from playing an intense role for the squad but there’s no doubt the 35-year-old will provide a healthy selection headache. Defoe’s presence will also ensure Kemar Roofe receives some rest between games in order to maintain complete fitness.
Leeds United should definitely make a move for the veteran striker. He will be an ideal replacement for Patrick Bamford until the latter recovers from the setback.
