Leeds United finished 13th in the Championship last season. The Whites sacked their head coach Paul Heckingbottom after the season before replacing him with Marcelo Bielsa. The Argentine tactician has explained that he has watched all of 51 of Leeds’ games last season in order to familiarise himself with the team.
Bielsa’s appointment means that the 2018/19 will be the fifth consecutive season where Leeds United will start with a new manager. The club have not really progressed in that time, playing far too inconsistently and sloppily.
The Whites conceded a total of 64 goals in the Championship last season, thereby proving that they have one of the weakest defences in the division. Goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell didn’t have the best of campaigns as he conceded an average of 2 goals per game.
The custodian was able to keep just 1 clean sheet and make a total of 36 saves all season. And to solve their problems between the sticks, Leeds reportedly want to sign Manchester City’s Angus Gunn, who enjoyed a successful loan spell with Norwich City last season.
He’s a highly rated shot-stopper, who is 6ft 5in tall. Gunn, who has a commanding presence inside the box, is a very vocal goalkeeper.
The 22-year-old is also very good with the ball at his feet. Gunn, who kept 15 clean sheets in 46 Championship outings for Norwich last season, received his first call-up to the England national team in November 2017 for a friendly match against Brazil after Jack Butland withdrew from the squad with an injury; however, he didn’t feature for the Three Lions.

His quality and potential is clearly evident and Gunn would be a great signing for Leeds, who will be aiming for a top-six finish under Bielsa next season. Signing Gunn would mean that the Whites will have a regular man between the sticks and won’t have to resort to rotating the goalkeepers as they did in the last season.
