According to the Birmingham Mail, Fulham are very keen on a move for Dwight Gayle. The former Premier League side have been linked with a move in the past, and are now amongst the many suitors for the Newcastle United man.
It seems that spending £100million in one transfer window wasn’t enough, with the Cottagers trying again. However, making a move for Dwight Gayle is the right move, especially given the club’s issues with scoring goals last season.
Sure, the Cottagers couldn’t stop any side from scoring against them with each of the 19 Premier League sides netting at least one goal against them.
It was a guidebook on how not to defend and one that should never be followed by any side. Yet, they managed to do relatively well offensively with Aleksandar Mitrovic scoring 11 goals, Andre Schurrle netting 6 and so on. Things need to change and it’s where someone just like Dwight Gayle comes into play.
On loan at West Bromwich last season, the 28-year-old did remarkably well for the Baggies. Paired with Jay Rodriguez, Gayle flourished by using his pace and agility to lethal effect in the Championship. That has seen him rediscover his best self, scoring 23 goals so far, which includes not one but two hat tricks.
Together, both Gayle and Rodriguez have scored a total of 45 goals this season. It’s why West Bromwich are keen on keeping the 28-year-old at the club, but with various other issues at the club, nothing has happened.
That is something that Fulham have to take advantage of given their situation. The Cottagers could lose more than a few players with the likes of Ryan Sessegnon (Mirror) linked with a move away.
Mitrovic signed a new contract and can’t be the only one that the club depend on anymore Dwight Gayle can be that effective player to have alongside him, despite the 28-year-old’s struggles in the Premier League.
Gayle has proven to be a very lethal Championship goalscorer, averaging 20 odd goals in the seasons he’s spent in the second-tier. It shows why Fulham need him.
And with time, maybe they’ll find a way back into the top-tier and this time do a better job of surviving.

Fulham need to change and by adding someone just like Dwight Gayle, will help them not just survive the Championship but maybe find their way back. However, they’ll have to build a team around the forward and his experience will prove to be very vital.
