From The Stands: Watford Fans Going Crazy After A Dramatic Finale

Share

We recently ran an article talking about the greatness of the Championships, Is this is the best league in the World? Well, yesterday’s play-offs between Watford and Leicester certainly makes a strong statement towards it.

It is crazy to think that League One match between Brentford and Doncaster Rovers not so long ago, had the exact scenario like yesterday’s.

Going into the game, Watford were trailing  1-0 to David Nugent’s goal from the first leg. Fast forward to the 90th minute, the scoreline read 2-1 in favour of Watford with the aggregate of 2-2 when  Leicester City’s French midfielder Anthony Knockaert worked his way into the penalty box and was brought down by Cassetti (or rather went down in a dramatic way).

However, the penalty was awarded and Knockaert stepped up. If he scored, Leicester could have been in the finals, but Almunia (Watford keeper) had other ideas. His double save paved a way for the counter attack and within the blink of the eye, Watford were on the other side of the pitch.

The ball was cleared by Ikechi Anya onto the path of Fernando Forestrieri, who crossed the ball for Jonathan Hogg to head back into the path of Deeney, who smashed it home.

Here we leave you with the video taken from the stands:

Although Watford deservedly won the tie, you have to feel for Leicester who had a similar feat a few years earlier when they bowed out the play-offs in the similar fashion.

Zola and his men deserves a Premier League promotions as Wembley beckons Watford.
