Four Transfers Manchester United Should Try To Complete This January Including These Two Brazilians

Share

Manchester United made an enterprising start to the season when they won their first 3 games on the bounce. But since then, their results have been mixed. The latest in a series of disappointing games came in the drab 0-0 draw at Anfield. Mourinho’s men looked exhausted and didn’t do much in an attacking sense. All their attacking players went missing and failed to impose themselves on the game. United had only one shot on target in the whole game and that speaks volumes about how United set themselves up for the game against a Liverpool side that have actually conceded some poor goals this term.

There is a need for more positivity from Jose Mourinho in how his United team sets itself up. It was quite clear when Mourinho announced his XI that it was going to be a defensive set up. But it also seemed like they might do something on the counter attack as Rashford and Young started on the wings. Pogba was given a free role behind Ibrahimovic and he failed to impress. So did the Swede, who missed a massive opportunity to head United in front after being set up with a cross by Paul Pogba.

Such performances will only put more pressure on Manchester United and Mourinho. If Mourinho is to truly restore Old Trafford to its former glory, a repeat performance such as Monday night’s must be avoided at all costs. Gary Neville has come out in his former team’s defense though, stating that Mourinho needs another transfer window or two to assemble the kind of squad that would come across as genuine title contenders.

Let’s have a look at a few players that Manchester United could chase in January to complete their squad.

Potential Targets

Fabinho

The 22-year-old Brazilian is a versatile player who can play at both right back and defensive midfield. He is a solid player who has put in consistent performances for Monaco, where he has plied his trade since 2013. His versatility will come as a major boon to United if they sign him. He could be the perfect foil for Paul Pogba or he could even slot in at right back, where Antonio Valencia has been putting in a shift despite being a more offensive minded player. Fabinho also has a reputation as being a frequent goal scorer. He sometimes takes penalties for his Monaco side. Although Manchester United should target Fabinho seriously, he has recently ruled out a move to Old Trafford stating that he is a happy man at the Principality.

Felipe Anderson

Another Brazilian currently under United’s radar is Felipe Anderson who flourishes either as a wide man or in central attacking midfield. Anderson is diminutive and known for his sharp running and dribbling skills. He’s also known to have a good eye for a pass. Bringing him in will definitely strengthen United’s squad and he could have the same impact Coutinho has made at Liverpool. Both are players of similar irk.

Romelu Lukaku

This perhaps looks like the most unlikely of all 3 so far as Lukaku’s team Everton are flying high in the Premier League standings.  Everton would be loathed to let their star man go to a rival club. This is a shocking link considering it was Mourinho who let Lukaku depart Chelsea as he thought the Belgian wasn’t capable enough of producing the goods. But Lukaku has gone from strength to strength since moving to Everton. He recently scored a goal of sheer brilliance against Manchester City and such displays will only add to his stock and it’s only a matter of time before some of the big boys come calling for Lukaku’s signature.  Mourinho is apparently of the opinion that Lukaku could be the answer to his striker woes.

Seamus Coleman

It’s clear that Manchester United want to invest in a player that is a right back. Coleman has been one of the most consistent full-backs in the Premier League. His willingness to run all game and put himself in decent positions are qualities to be admired. He also has a decent goal scoring record and often gets himself a few assists to boot as well. He would be a real quality addition to United’s squad. Getting him in January might be a tough task as Everton are doing quite well in the league themselves. A move in the summer could be on the cards but United need to get serious about their offer.
