Forget Tottenham – Here’s why this fiery 32-goal attacker would be better off joining Man United instead

Premier League opinion: Who should Bruno Fernandes join – Spurs or United

There are around three weeks left for the English summer transfer window and clubs are still actively trying to improve their squads with their individual ambitions in mind. Players are looking to join the Premier League as well, after seeing their domination in European competitions last season.

Two clubs that are actively looking to improve their squads are Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. They’ve both done some business and have made a marquee signing each in Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tanguy Ndombele.

Manchester United, despite their struggles since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure, always head into a new season with expectations to win silverware and contest for the biggest trophies.

Spurs don’t normally have the same expectations but after coming so close to winning the biggest club football competition, they’ll be hungrier than ever to make it count the next time.

Bruno Fernandes

One player that both clubs have been linked with is Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon.

The Portuguese international has been unbelievable in the Portuguese League for the last two seasons. He has an outstanding goalscoring record, having notched up 32 goals and 18 goals for Sporting in all competitions last season.

Fernandes is an attacking midfielder, who can either play as an 8 or a 10. He also has a lot of tenacity while being two-footed and is quite speedy for a midfielder, which allows him to cover ground quickly and help transition in counter-attacks.

Let’s now discuss as to who among Spurs and United would be the better fit.

Tottenham Hotspur

Fernandes would elevate Spurs into a very deep squad full of quality. The north London outfit already have Christian Eriksen, who does a similar job, but he often goes missing in big games and is often the sole source for creativity. With Fernandes in the squad, the pressure will be off of Eriksen.

Mauricio Pochettino

Manchester United

United need surgery and adding a player like Fernandes would help their top-four chances massively. United depend far too heavily on Paul Pogba, which often leads to the player getting man-marked out of games.

United need to assemble a more fit squad and Bruno Fernandes’ work rate and creativity would solve multiple problems that Manchester United face.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Verdict

With game time guaranteed, Fernandes would probably see United as a more attractive option. The need for United is more desperate and it would probably make more sense if he were to become a Red Devil.
