Forget Steve Bruce – 3 Ideal alternatives who Aston Villa could hire including 63-year-old veteran

Share

According to reports, Steve Bruce could walk away from Aston Villa this summer even if owner Tony Xia decides not to axe him.

Bruce, 57, managed to guide the Villans to the Championship play-off final, only to lose 1-0 against Fulham at Wembley last month.

It is testing times for Villa with them under financial turmoil and Bruce is yet to receive assurances that he will remain in charge of the club next season.

Should Bruce walk away from Villa Park, Villa will need a manager who can take the club forward. That being said; here are three managers the Championship club must consider.

Sam Allardyce

Allardyce’s reputation may be at a low after getting sacked by Everton last month, and he may have to drop down to the Championship if he wants another managerial job.

The 63-year-old is a vastly experienced manager, having got Bolton Wanderers and West Ham promoted from the Championship in the past.

Allardyce’s style of play has never been lauded but he may just be the right man at the right time for the Villans to take them out of the rut.

Mick McCarthy

Another manager who ideally has the pedigree to steady Villa’s ship is McCarthy. The 59-year-old brought an end to his six-year spell at Ipswich Town by stepping down in April.

McCarthy has a wealth of experience in management and Villa could prove to be a tempting prospect for him. He could be the right man for Villa to take them back to the Premier League.

Dean Smith

If Villa are looking for a young and dynamic manager with fresh ideas capable of making them play an attractive brand of football on a tight budget, then Smith could be the perfect man.

The 47-year-old has been punching above his weight with Brentford, guiding them to a top half finish for the third consecutive season in the Championship.

Smith has shown his credentials of working on a shoe-string budget at Brentford since 2015. He has done an excellent job at Griffin Park and Villa should definitely consider hiring him if Bruce leaves.

If Smith can retain his fluid and high-octane style of football at Villa Park, he would become an instant hit.
