Why Renato Sanches’ Move To Swansea City Is A Really Good Move

Renato Sanches was one of the top performers in the Euro 2016 tournament which he won with his team Portugal. Having started his career at Benfica, the box to box midfielder made the move to Bayern Munich in a move which many people thought was a little premature for his own liking. At Bayern, things didn’t go according to plan as he stumbled upon a rock that curtailed his progress and development.

He has now moved to the Premier League where Swansea have snapped him up on a season-long loan. Manager Paul Clement will be thanking his stars for getting a player of Renato Sanches’ calibre and potential. Sanches has plenty of energy and is still only 20. He has many years left ahead of him.

He’s impressed severely with the national team but it’s at club level where Sanches has suffered the brunt of not getting enough game time. Sanches can play in a number of positions and will fit in well with the group at Swansea where Paul Clement is an expert at dealing with youngsters with great potential. In fact, Clement was deputy to Carlo Ancelotti when Sanches signed for Bayern Munich.

So, he will have a decent idea of how the player likes to work and can probably integrate him into the first team squad slowly after the international break ends.

Many have predicted that Sanches will enjoy the physical nature of the Premier League where his box to box qualities could be put to the best of use. At Bayern Munich, his progress was starting to get stifled due to the number of players they had in midfield there. New signing Corentin Tolisso too eclipsed him in the race for the midfield positions.

So it was highly inevitable that he would depart the club either permanently or on a loan basis. The latter is what happened, despite getting linked with a lot of big clubs this summer. Swansea should consider themselves lucky to have a player of his aura at the club as he could severely benefit from the carrot of good playing time at The Liberty Stadium. Ivorian Wilfried Bony has also returned to the club from Manchester City and with such a good group of players, Swansea should look to avoid the relegation battle they had last year.

Sanches really is a good signing for Swansea and his arrival should ease the sting of Gylfi Sigurdsson’s departure.
