Forget Morrison – 2 alternatives who West Brom could target including this inspirational 27-year-old

According to reports, West Brom will only offer a new contract to James Morrison should he prove his fitness after missing the majority of last season with a horrible Achilles injury.

The 32-year-old has been at West Brom ever since the club snapped him up from Middlesbrough in 2007. However, Morrison is out of contract at the end of this month and his future at the Hawthorns hinges on his fitness and any further setback in the next few weeks could spell his end at the club.

Middlesbrough are reportedly keeping tabs on the Scot and should Morrison leave to join Tony Pulis’ side, here are two alternatives West Brom should consider to replace him.

Birkir Bjarnason (Aston Villa)

Bjarnason arrived at Aston Villa from FC Basel in January 2017 but it took him a year to finally start showcasing his talent in England. The Iceland international has shown commitment, character, and desire to turn his fortunes around at Villa Park.

The 30-year-old actually appeared as a new signing for Villa after January 2018 as he played a key role in helping the club reach the Championship play-off final. His upturn in form could make him an incredibly shrewd signing for the Baggies should they lose Morrison in the summer.

Darren Moore’s West Brom could look to sign Bjarnason from their West Midland rivals to bolster their midfield options.

Marlon Pack (Bristol City)

One of the most improved players for Bristol City last season was midfielder Marlon Pack. It was the 27-year-old’s best season in terms of goals scored for the Robins.

A leader and an inspirational figure at Bristol, Pack is a combative midfielder with a good technique and passing abilities. Pack has established himself as a firm fan favourite at Bristol with his tenacity and work-rate in the middle of the park.

Pack, who has just a year left on his current contract, could be a fantastic signing for the Baggies. The former Portsmouth man possesses good qualities that would be needed in midfield next term, as West Brom aim for promotion back to the top-flight.
