Forget Joe Hart – Here Are 3 Super Replacements Manchester City Must Pursue Including This Barcelona Star

Share

When Pep Guardiola announced that he was leaving Bayern Munich and joining Manchester City this summer, many players were left unsure about their future. Guardiola is someone who will not take mediocrity from his players and will demand complete focus. City underwhelmed last season as they sneaked into the top four and weren’t able to take advantage of the lack of consistency from other big clubs. Although they won the Capital One Cup, their performance in the Semi Final of Champions League against Real Madrid, showed that gap in quality that exists between the two clubs. Every player will be assessed before they are integrated into Guardiola’s plans for next season.

One player who in particular will be feeling the heat currently is English international Joe Hart, who had disastrous few days at the Euros. The Manchester City goalkeeper has come in for fierce criticism after being at fault for goals against Wales and Iceland as England crashed out of the tournament in the last 16. Hart went into the Euros on the back of a noteworthy season for City, with some remarkable performances in the Champions League. However his distribution from the back has come into questioning off late, especially with Guardiola known to expect his keepers to be good with their feet.

Manchester City has been linked with a host of keepers this summer and here are the 3 players who could be perfect replacement for the English number 1.

Claudio Bravo

Guardiola is massive admirer of the 32-year-old shot stopper and is reported to have orchestrated his move from Real Sociedad to Barcelona in 2014. Barcelona won’t be too keen on letting him go, therefore City might need to trigger his release clause which is thought to be around £30.4m on an agreement that goes through until 2019. He is currently in competition with ter Stegen to become the number one keeper at Camp Nou. Last year United were also linked with the Chilean, as a replacement for De Gea.

Marc-André ter Stegen

It was reported that Liverpool and Manchester City were locked in a battle to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen this summer, however Klopp decided to sign Karius instead. Barca are keen to offer an improved contract to Ter Stegen, though the 23 year old keeper favours teaming up with incoming manager Pep Guardiola in Manchester. His game time has been very limited recently, which might persuade him to look for new employers this summer.

Kasper Schmeichel

The Premier League winner may feel that fate will call him to Old Trafford soon, yet it could be the blue half of Manchester that eventually signs him. His father played for both the clubs during his immensely successful career. Kasper was brilliant for Liecester City last season as they were crowned Premier League Champions. Having been let go by City earlier in his career, it would take very effective persuasion to bring him back.
