Forget it Mourinho – Man United signing this inconsistent Championship youngster could be a blunder

If reports are to be believed, Jack Grealish is being lined up as a target by Manchester United. The player who missed out on an English Premier League promotion with Aston Villa might still find his way to the English top-flight.

Grealish, 22 years old, must be on his haunches to grab the dream opportunity of signing for the biggest club in England.

However, the deal might be cursed from the off as the news of signing a young unproven player from the Championship isn’t a welcome move. Here are three reasons why Jack Grealish’s move to Manchester United might not work.

Uninspiring season in Championship

Although Grealish is rated highly for his dribbling talent and ability on the ball, the player wasn’t particularly good over the length of the season. It’s great to see a player doing the flicks and tricks, but there has to be an end product to match and support them. Grealish’s 3 goals and 6 assists at the Championship level are disappointing, to say the least.

Even in the play-off final against Fulham, the young English footballer showed his quality and trickery but failed to convert a few good chances for his team. At a big club like Manchester United, such inconsistency could be exposed even more and the player might crumble under the pressure.

Another one in the line

Manchester United are among the biggest clubs in the world where players don’t get enough chances to impress as there is another player pushing them from the back. There are already a number of quality wingers/attackers at Old Trafford, who are struggling for game time, and Grealish might become the latest addition to that list.

Young talented players like Rashford, Martial and Lingard have found it hard to get game time under Jose Mourinho.

Fans’ dissent

Following a disappointing season where Manchester United failed to win a single piece of silverware, big-name signings are the need of the hour. A signing like Grealish might face the flak of the frustrated supporters, who might not be kind to a player in need of support and encouragement.

Grealish is an expressive player who needs to feel confident to thrive. Hence, the fans’ outlook towards the player might prove to be a big factor in his development and performances.
