Forget it Hodgson – Crystal Palace signing this Chelsea outcast would be nothing short of a suicide

Why Victor Moses is not the right kind of player for Hodgson’s Crystal Palace

When Maurizio Sarri took over as the manager of Chelsea at the start of this season, a lot of the players who had seen regular first-team football were dropped. One such player was Victor Moses. Under Conte, Moses was deployed at right wing-back.

He was a part of the team that won the Premier League title under Conte’s first season in charge. Crucial for the way the team functioned, he was extremely important to the team but what impressed the most that season was Chelsea’s ability to transition from the defence to the attack before the opponents could even process the situation.

Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses were the keys to the way Chelsea were able to unlock defences and their strong running down the flanks gave unbelievable spaces for Eden Hazard, Willian and Pedro to run into.

If Victor Moses was to make the switch to Selhurst Park to join Crystal Palace, it is highly doubtful that he would be used in the wing-back position. There is a higher chance of him playing as one of the wingers.

With players like James McArthur, Jason Puncheon and Max Meyer already in their ranks, it is highly unlikely that he would get to play regularly on the right wing. Also, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka looking like he’s in the form of his life, Moses’ chances of taking the right-back position look extremely bleak too.

Super quick on and off the ball, Moses possesses a keen eye for picking out some inch-perfect through passes to release his teammates. He is also a direct runner who loves to dribble past players and also makes some key smart runs.

Although his skill on the ball is great, he does tend to be rather inconsistent. His decision-making in the final third can also be questionable on certain occasions. He also tends to play some weak crosses into the box, which is something that the Eagles’ current wing-backs, Patrick Van Aanholt and Wan Bissaka, have excelled at.

For Moses to play on the right wing, he would probably have to come off the bench. While Chelsea could tolerate his inconsistency due to supreme quality in other positions, Moses doesn’t seem to be the kind of player that would suit a Roy Hodgson side.

For a player who is already 28 years old, going to another club where he wouldn’t be a guaranteed regular first-teamer doesn’t seem like the smartest decision. He is going to be better off holding out for another club to come calling – not necessarily from the Premier League either.
