Forget De Gea: 3 Bundesliga Talents Manchester United Should Look To Sign

Share

With Iker Casillas’ time coming to an end in the Spanish national team, Spain have finally found a goalkeeper who be a match for Casillas, David de Gea played in the last EURO qualifier for Spain, ahead of Casillas who has been low on confidence ever since the 2014 World Cup debacle.

With rumours spreading that Real Madrid are going to pounce on the young Spanish goalkeeper and bring him back to Spain, here are some goalkeepers who could fill the void left behind by David de Gea.

Germany is abundant with great goalkeepers, everyone knows about Manuel Neuer but there are quite a few great and young goalkeepers who are giving him a run for his money. Here are three goalkeepers who would be able replacements for David de Gea or for any team out there.

Bernd Leno

The 22 year old has been a rock ever since he started playing for Bayer Leverkusen, he is only the third goalkeeper in Bundesliga history to have kept three clean sheets in his first three games, he was also the youngest goalkeeper to play in the UEFA Champions league when he made his debut against Chelsea in September 2011 at the age of 19.

Leno is not only agile and fast but has great reflexes and would be a worthy addition to any squad, the German is contracted to stay at Leverkusen till 2017 and has a lot of time to grow to fulfil his potential, he would need to constantly play games, unlike Ter-Steggen who moved to Barcelona this season.

Kevin Trapp

The 23 year old who plays for Eintracht Frankfurt is one of the best penalty savers in the Bundesliga and has been brilliant for the Frankfurt club since his move from relegated Kaiserslautern. Trapp, who is 6’3”, also is extremely agile and often rushes out of the box to close down oncoming attackers.

As with most of the top goalkeepers, his reflexes are right at the top of the game and have been doing well for the most part of 18 months. The only negative that Trapp might have is that he hasn’t always been considered a great goalkeeper within Germany as well, often he has been overlooked by more industrious goalkeepers like Neuer, Zieler, Ter-Steggen and Leno but if Trapp continues his positive displays for Frankfurt, he could end up making a big move to a big club.

Ron-Robert Zieler

You know a player is great when Sir Alex Ferguson says that he missed out on him, the former Manchester United trainee went on to sign for Hannover 96 and has not looked back. Always a part of the German national squad, the 25 year old has always been considered as one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga.

It was injury that blighted his career and stagnated it while at Manchester United but now he has recovered very well and has put in some rather brilliant performances for Hannover, who knows a move back to Manchester could be on the cards, he does have some unfinished business at Old Trafford.
