Forget Chelsea Star, Arsenal Should Look At These 3 Alternatives For A Goalkeeper

Share

The search for a new number one goalkeeper at Arsenal goes on, the club have lined up a move for Chelsea’s Petr Cech as many outlets are reporting, but there is one stumbling block which could prevent the deal from taking place, Jose Mourinho. Mourinho is known for extremely judicious in his transfer policies and if he feels that a rival club could benefit from the deal, he would be the first one to pull the plug on the transfer. It isn’t to say that he would not listen to Cech’s wish if he does want to move to another club but no one knows what Jose is thinking.

Cech might not be available so easily for Arsenal, so we try to come up with 3 alternatives who could step up in the Red of Arsenal this season.

Iker Casillas

The 34-year-old Real Madrid legend could be one his way to being replaced by the young hotshot David De Gea from Manchester United. St. Iker, as he is so fondly called in Spain, hasn’t had the greatest of times since Jose Mourinho took over the club and although he was restored in the team this season, he hasn’t been at his best at Madrid. A new scenery, new challenge and playing in a new team could be just the thing that Casillas needs to get him going again. When he was at his best, he was probably the best goalkeeper in Spain, if not in Europe and that is saying a lot when you have competition from the likes of Buffon and Neuer.

Roman Weidenfeller

The Borussia Dortmund and Germany goalkeeper has been one of the best players and most loyal players in the Bundesliga but last season was littered with mistakes from the back 5 of Dortmund and that could just be a sign of the player needing a fresh move and challenge. Weidenfeller isn’t the youngest goalkeeper in the world but he would do a great job for Arsenal as he is authoritative and a leader in any team he plays. Hopefully Arsenal will have a better time with this German goalkeeper than the last one who played for their club, Jens Lehmann.

Steve Mandanda

The Marseille goalkeeper has been putting in excellent performances for the club for quite a few years, but it doesn’t seem that they would be anywhere close to the levels of PSG for quite a few seasons. Andre Ayew left the club to join Swansea in the Premier League and who knows, Mandanda could be looking at greener pastures as well. The 30-year-old is a French international which would be a bonus for Arsenal and Arsene Wenger, Mandanda has been rated as one of the most consistent goalkeepers over the years and playing for a club like Arsenal could just be the final chapter in his excellent career so far.
