Aston Villa endured a disappointing couple of weeks to end what was an encouraging season in the Championship. They narrowly missed out on being promoted to the Premier League and now, it is being reported that manager Steve Bruce may not be staying with the Midlands club.
The report claims that Bruce is keen to stay back but Tony Xia has not been in touch to get his contract sorted.
It must also be noted that the Championship outfit are facing a lot of financial struggles right now. To deal with it, Villa might have to sell their star players and no manager would be happy with that. As far as Bruce is concerned, he will not face a shortage of offers given his excellent promotion record.
However, his absence could go on to create greater troubles for the Villans. If Bruce ends up leaving Villa, here are two managerial options that the club could consider replacing him with.
The experienced Scottish manager is now available after being let go by West Ham and he could be up for the role at Aston Villa.
To be fair, he did a great job at West Ham as he steadied the ship and helped retain their Premier League status. Over the years, he has proven to be an extremely resilient and hard-working manager.
He is also known for working well within a budget and that makes him an excellent appointment for the Villans right now.
He boasts of experience in the top-flight and is also renowned for his ability to get teams promoted to higher leagues.
Can Aston Villa lure the Northern Irishman away from the international scene and get him back to club football?
Having achieved glory with Villa in the mid-2000s, O’Neill might not be going back to any club anytime soon. He is a loved and admired figure by the fanbase and those were, incidentally, the last glory days at Villa.
O’Neill still has ample quality as a manager and would be a great appointment for Villa. He was reportedly in talks to join Stoke in January but he turned them down. Could the call of his former club be enough to tempt him back to the league?
