For £3.3m, Arsenal Should Re-sign Their Former Youngster

Share

There have been fresh rumours about former Arsenal man Carlos Vela’s possible return to his former club after he admitted that he is looking forward to change in his future. Arsenal have the chance of buying him at a very low price of around £3.3m, because of a clause in the transfer made two years ago, that says Arsenal can buy him back for a price that is 1 million Euros more than what Sociedad paid for him that time. Currently he has a release clause of around £25m, which means a transfer fee of about £4 million can be a real steal for the gunners.

The Mexican forward has had a great 2013-14 season as he has been the main star for Real Sociedad with 15 goals and 11 assists in 35 appearances. He is primarily a right winger for the Spanish club, but he can also play through the center, something which Arsene Wenger had said earlier as he stated his needs about a striker who can play alongside as well as instead of Giroud.

Carlos Vela was one of Arsenal’s promising young players whom Wenger had expected to shine. Everyone at Arsenal knew his potential and they made sure that they have a buy-back clause in his transfer deal. Vela seems to be in course to mature into a great player, now that he is 25 and has good top-flight experience to his name.

In his first stint at Arsenal, he could not adapt to the physicality of the English league and hence he could not break into the team. His technical abilities were always on the show, but he needed to have more first team exposure and development in order to play regularly for Arsenal. Now that he has established himself as a star, he can be among those many flair players who have shone on English soil after kick starting their career in Spain.

Now Vela believes that he’s ready, and especially after such strong seasons at Sociedad and establishing himself as the talisman there, physicality is something that can easily be countered with effective technique, sharpness and speed, all of which Vela possesses. And it’s a risk that Wenger can easily take. With improved finances, the Mexican’s £3.3m buy-back is an absolute bargain and a very tempting gamble, which according to me, the Arsenal boss must not fear to take.

Vela, besides scoring 15 goals, has helped Sociedad players to score 11 more, something which epitomises the fact that he learned his trade at Arsenal. And to add to that, his shot accuracy is far better than Arsenal’s current leading striker Olivier Giroud. Vela has a shot accuracy of 54%, which is 11% more than what Giroud has managed this season.

His capability of playing anywhere along the front three, makes him a useful addition. With a astounding 79% pass accuracy, Vela can very well be used along with Giroud in a modified 4-4-2 formation to set up the Gunners attack with a different sense of flair.
