After the revolution Antonio Conte has made in Chelsea, the Italian boss is still looking for more changes in his team. So far, it has been a non-stop process for Conte and his staff since the beginning of their journey, constantly looking for some improvements in the defensive end of the pitch.
So now, just a couple of months away from the new transfer window, Abramovich and his team are once again on the hunt for some talent, and they could be making a push for a guy or two to reinforce their contending side.
As we mentioned before, Antonio Conte revolutionized Stamford Bridge, as he completely changed the scheme of the blues and his style of play, something that eventually cost some players their minutes and therefore, their future at the Stamford Bridge institution.
With the imminent departures of players like Cesc Fabregas and Branislav Ivanovic or the differences between the captain and referent of the club with the head coach due to Conte’s changes, the Italian head coach and his partners will try to replace or reinforce some positions.
Last summer they were linked to names like Giorgio Chiellini, Raphael Varane and Leonardo Bonucci, but none of these players finally landed in Stamford Bridge, so now they must try and complete the signing of a talented defender in order to remain as competitors.
Having said that, there’s been a player that’s lately catching the eye of several clubs (Chelsea included): Jamaal Lascelles, as the youngster was one of the best things (if not the only good thing) we could see in Newcastle last season.
Jamaal was a huge surprise not only for Newcastle fans but for other Premier League teams, and since the kid landed in St. James’ Park from Nottingham Forrest in 2014, he has been showing a great level for Rafa Benitez’s team, gaining more importance for Newcastle through the past seasons, increasing his playing time and becoming a very steady and reliable choice for the Spanish boss.
Chelsea reportedly made a push for Lascelles during the past transfer window but they couldn’t reach a settlement that worked for all the parties involved. Now they are back in the battle for Jamaal, a very good purchase for them if Ivanovic leaves, and if they want to introduce some youth to the lineup; Lascelles is just the right guy for the job.
Jamaal is only 22 years old and he’s already the captain of Newcastle United after so that definitely says something about the quality and the character of the boy, and also makes you think that they won’t let him go for a low price.
The youngster is currently one of the biggest priorities for Conte right now, and given his play style and unlimited potential, it wouldn’t be shocking if Abramovich decides to make a great bid for Jamaal in order to bring him at Stamford Bridge for a very long time, and it’ll actually be one of the most exciting signings of the year for the blues, who had to settle for a panic buy that sealed the return of David Luiz to London.
