With just a few days to go for the end of the Premier League transfer window, it is a bit of a surprise seeing that Arsenal have not been able to close a few more deals. The only signing worth mentioning at the moment is that of Granit Xhaka but even the Swiss star does not look 100% at the moment and the Gunners do need to work hard if they are to do well this season again.
The Premier League club have been linked with a lot of players from a number of clubs but be it due to some poor transfer dealings or due to some random reasons like players not wanting to come to London, Arsenal have not been able to close deals out and with the Gunners seriously needing a lot of quality in certain sections, here are three players that Arsenal should have signed a while back but have not been able to seal the deal.
The 25-year-old Frenchman is everything that Arsenal need when it comes to attacking for the Premier League side. Griezmann can play out wide, has brilliant pace, is comfortable with the ball and has an eye for goal and having been linked with a move to the Emirates, it was only a matter of time before Arsenal should have clinched the deal.
Some things, however, are not meant to be and Griezmann seems set to stay at Atletico Madrid and would only move to another club if they are in a better shape of winning competitions that the La Liga side and Arsenal do not seem to be in any position to win anything this season.
Griezmann would have certainly solved Arsenal’s problems of not having a quality striker but the deal hasn’t happened and it does not look like it will happen anytime soon.
While we have spoken about the issue the Gunners have when it comes to attack and how they have not been able to bring in a quality replacement or partner for Olivier Giroud, there is another problem which Arsenal seem to skirt and that is the centre of defence. For some reason, Arsene Wenger is not willing to splash the cash for a quality centre-half and now it does seem he needs one more than ever due to the injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel.
Arsenal were linked with a big money move for Mustafi from Valencia and even though the rumoured fee at one point was £30 million, which was peanuts since the defender is a German international and is pretty young, but Arsene being Arsene has not signed Mustafi, even though there was a lot of news stating that the defender had actually agreed on personal terms.
Even we do not know why this deal has not taken place.
Another area that Arsenal could do well in is out on the wing with only Alexis Sanchez being a proper winger. The Gunners had been linked with the best player from last season’s Premier League campaign but yet again, they could not seal the deal for Mahrez and will be left wondering how they could not get the Algerian.
Mahrez though has decided to stay at Leicester at the moment but many would suggest that if Arsenal were to have put up a little more money, they could have gotten the Leicester City winger and that would have made life a lot easier for the rest of the Arsenal team.
The Algerian would have given a lot of quality to Arsenal out wide but the manager seems to have stuck with his tried and trusted players for now, even though they could have had one of the best in the world currently playing for them.
