Three Premier League managers who are likely to get the sack this season

It is a comprehensible cliche that Premier League football is more than just a game. We often see managers getting rolled over in short spaces of time because of the money involved in the game.

For that reason, the owners don’t think about the future and only crave for results at present. For example, a club getting relegated changes their manager just to stay in the Premier League because of the financial demands.

Top clubs face similar situations as well. Most of them desperately want to get into the top-four to receive added income for playing Champions League football. It helps them attract players of their own choice as well. In case these clubs finish out of the top-four spots, the managers get the sack immediately.

Chelsea are the best example of a club which runs on business rather than the game. It is no disrespect to them, but it’s clear that owner Roman Abramovich has preferred trophies over building the squad for a certain period of time. That is why we see a new boss in charge of Stamford Bridge every two to three years.

There are clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City who provide time for their managers to build something special, even if they lose the battle the first time around. To that end, Burnley are the best example of keeping faith in a manager. But sacking managers has been the general norm in modern-day football.

Moving on, we take a look at three managerial candidates who may get sacked this season:

1.) Claude Puel (Leicester City)

Leicester City sacked Claudio Ranieri the season after he dramatically won them the Premier League title. So, one can expect anything from them at any point in the season. They also removed Craig Shakespeare quite early into the last season, as he couldn’t get the results aspired by the club.

So, dismissing Puel after a bad run of games won’t be a surprise at all. Leicester’s mood, as a club, is just like a sine-wave plot – one minute it’s up and the other minute it goes down. And the negative reaction during a period of gloom is severe to the managers.

2.) Jose Mourinho (Manchester United)

We are well aware of the situation at Manchester United. The tension has been high since pre-season days as the manager did not get the transfer targets he was hoping for. To add salt to the wound, arch-rivals Liverpool spent a huge amount of money and Manchester City don’t look like slowing down anytime soon.

And now, Jose Mourinho is a visibly frustrated man at Old Trafford. The feeble loss to Brighton & Hove Albion merely showed that the players are also feeling the heat. Furthermore, this is Mourinho’s third season and he generally gets the sack at this time of his managerial reign.

3.) Mark Hughes (Southampton)

Southampton flirted with relegation last season. As a result, Mauricio Pellegrino got fired despite being appointed only last summer. So, the Saints hierarchy certainly won’t be happy with bad results this season. And with the way they have started, it does look like Mark Hughes will be under pressure sooner rather than later.

Hence, it won’t be surprising if the Welshman gets dismissed after a poor run of results this season.
