To 5 Bundesliga Players Liverpool Could Target In January Including This Dortmund Star (Not Reus)

Share

Jurgen Klopp finally got his first win as Liverpool manager and what a win it was. Defeating Chelsea isn’t the easiest thing to do, despite Chelsea having a rather poor season but defeating them at home is a greater feat for the German. The Liverpool manager played down the chances of the club gunning for the title, which, to be honest, is a bit premature, but they certainly have a platform to build on.

There still are a few issues with Liverpool as they don’t have the best squad or at least a squad which can play the Klopp way. We list out five players who could be targeted by Klopp in the winter transfer window as he revamps his Liverpool side.

5. Nevan Subotic

One position which the club does need to strengthen in is the central defence. Liverpool do have Skrtel, Lovren, Sakho, Toure and Ilori at the moment, but they don’t always provide a confident display. Subotic is only 26-years-old and has had a great relationship with Klopp, plus he hasn’t had the best of times with new manager Thomas Tuchel, certainly Liverpool and Klopp can try to get the central defender from Dortmund.

4. Loris Karius

The goalkeeper’s position is another position that Liverpool needs strengthening. Simon Mignolet might be alright at the moment, but his lapses in concentration have cost Liverpool earlier. Klopp would want someone who is more authoritative between the sticks and the current Mainz goalkeeper could well be the first signing for the German. The U21 German international is only 22-years-old and would be a great understudy to Mignolet, eventually taking up the gloves.

3. Kevin Volland

The 23-year-old attacker who has been making a name for himself at Hoffenheim, Volland is exceptionally gifted and was a transfer target for many in the summer. The German international can play as a striker or a winger and with Liverpool not having any world-class wingers; this youngster could easily fill the gap. He would come on the cheap as well if Klopp can wheel and deal like he used to at Dortmund.

2. Granit Xhaka

Liverpool needs a bit of a bite in midfield and the Bundesliga is filled with great talent who can easily make the switch to England. Granit Xhaka is one such midfield who has gotten rave reviews for his performances at Borussia Monchengladbach. The Swiss international is one of the best players at the club and can play a number of roles in midfield. Liverpool might more creativity in midfield and that can easily provide the Merseyside club an outlet in midfield.

  1. Sven Bender

Sven Bender has been a target for many Premier League clubs throughout his career. The 26-year-old German is rock solid in midfield and also has great vision to pick out a pass, certainly built to do well in the Premier League. Bender might be tempted with a move to the league now since his previous manager Klopp needs reinforcements in the defensive midfield position with only Emre Can and Lucas Leiva filling in this role.
