Fernandinho, Negredo And Jesus Navas The Standout Players In Manchester City’s 6-0 Thumping Over Tottenham

Share

A sublime performance epitomized by ruthless finishing and dazzling dominance meant the Premier League Contenders slay a below par Tottenham side at the Etihad here on Sunday. Manchester City’s emphatic thumping meant that Tottenham now lie ninth on the table and the biggest defeat of Andre Villas Boas’ career and Spurs’ worst in 17 years. The Citizens were absolutely rampant, dominant and at best ruthless against a side who were at the beginning of the season considered Premiership Contenders. However would they ask the same question to themselves again?

Talking about the stats, Sergio Aguero now has more goals personally than Totthenham this campaign. The decision to play Vertonghen in the left back role proved to be a massive blunder with Micheal Dawson looking absolutely poor in the centre back position. City were allowed to run at Spurs’ defence with the centre forward partnership of Negredo and Aguero tearing apart the Tottenham defence to shreds. Jesus Navas in the right winger role constantly terrified Vertonghen in the right flank, City have now scored 13 goals in the last two games displaying a mesmerizing triangular football, the testament of Manuel Pellegrini’s influence in the squad.

What the full match highlights here:

Here are the three players who shined in City’s drubbing over Tottenham:

Fernandinho:

If there was anyone who deserved a goal in this match it had to be the former Shaktar man and Brazilian Fernandinho. With Toure in the double pivot role, he was always assured with the ball making surges forward whenever possible and always acted as a screen for his defence. Though the Brazilian missed the easiest of chances to enhance the scoreline, Pellegrini would perhaps be more than happy that Fernandinho is slowly but steadily making his presence felt in the middle of the park.

Alvaro Negredo:

The former Sevilla man fully justified his price tag with a sublime performance worthy of a praise and reference for years to come. Not only did he press the Spurs defence relentlessly, Negredo made sure he was always at the right place at the right time, a testament for his sheer passion and the willingness to succeed in an entirely different country. Moreover his goal with a wonderful turn to lose his marker and a thumping drive which sent tremors at the back of Hugo Llioris’ net was a treat to watch.

Jesus Navas:

Yes, you might be wondering how Aguero didn’t make the list as I have picked the Spanish star. Aguero was truly sublime but Navas gave his best performance in a City shirt. He terrorized Vertonghen continuously and got a goal for him late on, which glorifies his contribution more than what he simply did on the pitch.
