Norwich’s outside chance of making the playoffs will finally fade if they fail to beat Hull at home this weekend. The Canaries are unbeaten in their last 6 games but they have drawn 5 times in that run to put them 10 points outside the playoffs, in 14th position.
Daniel Farke would have hoped for much more when he came in at the beginning of the season, but the loss of Pritchard in January and some poor performances from October to Christmas meant they are not as high up as they would have hoped to be.
Their opponents this weekend, Hull City, will be desperate for a win in their own struggle to survive in the Championship. With Norwich not having much to play for, it would not be surprising if the Tigers have the upper hand.
Norwich will be without Louis Thompson and Tom Trybull who are out with long-term injuries. Matt Jarvis picked up an injury on his return in a U23 game and so he’ll not be available. Nelson Oliveira will be hoping for a recall after being dropped against Nottingham Forest for disciplinary reasons.
The young goalkeeper has already played 40 matches for the Canaries this season, and can be relied upon to put in good performances.
Jamal Lewis only made his senior debut in December and will be making his 13th appearance for Norwich if he starts this game against Hull.
The former Blackburn defender is having a much more settled season than he did last season in the Championship with Newcastle United.
The experienced 29-year-old Swiss defender has played in the Champions League with Wolfsburg and will be looking to show his quality and keep the attackers at bay.
Harrison Reed has been converted into a right-back by Farke. He is more used to playing as a defensive midfielder for Southampton.
The former Lazio and Dortmund player has only played 7 games for Norwich but has the ability to hold on to the ball well and displays a good range of passing. May well be needed to break Hull’s defensive lines.
The tough-tackling 31-year-old has been in East Anglia since 2012 and his work rate and defensive skills are admired by the Carrow Road regulars.
Hernandez can play anywhere across the front line and is an excellent dribbler with pace to burn. He may lose the ball a few times but he can be a difference maker for Norwich.
The creative hub of the team, everything goes through Maddison. It can seem at times that Norwich are just relying on him to do something special but when that happens, it is worth it.
Murphy can play as a forward and can deliver a wicked set-piece. Don’t expect him to do much defensive work but his pace can stretch the best of defences.
Oliveira is a mercurial player who can drift in and out of games. When he is good, he can be unplayable but he has clearly had issues with his discipline. We shall have to see which Oliveira we get to see this weekend.
