Leicester City enjoyed a victory after a four-game winless drought in their first game of 2018, at the expense of Huddersfield Town. The home side beat them 3-0, with goals flowing from the boots of Riyad Mahrez, Islam Slimani and a late one from Marc Albrighton.
The first half was rather boring, considering the fact that the Foxes failed to register a shot on target. On the other side too, Wagner’s side managed just one on target. In the next 45 though, there was more threat. Mahrez and co. were moving the ball from defence to attack really quickly. Leicester are now at 8th spot and are comfortably looking upwards.
He dominated the set pieces and collected the ball well. Otherwise, he had a comfortable afternoon with almost nothing to test him.
Very composed and stable in his new position. He didn’t give away space, kept it tight and intercepted a couple of passes. However, he needs to pass with more accuracy and not give it away easily.
He was organised, sturdy and was not really tested apart from situations where he had to stay shoulder to shoulder with the opposition forward. Very unfortunate to limp off the pitch.
He was sharp while preventing counter attacks or shots on goal, but has to learn that every forward cannot be held back if one’s too tight on him. In the opposition box, the former Hull City defender was a constant threat.
Magnificent and exquisite when it came to deliveries. He kept Slimani busy and was continuously asking him to attack the cross. Defensively, a little too narrow at times but one could say it’s understood considering the fact that Huddersfield didn’t carry the ball too well.
He expanded and increased the bracket of defence, sat deep and had a fine match.
Very quick to react, was always switched on. Unlucky to have not headed home Gray’s cross and put the game to bed. His challenges were crisp and superb.
Player of the match! He got the ball, wrapped it around with a touch of conviction and picked his passes early. From the dribble to his first touch pass to Mahrez for the first goal, his intent looked clear. The winger’s passing was full of creativity.
Swift, quick and delightful in everything that he did. The volley was sweetly hit and the assist too was perfectly played. A craftsman at his very best.
Put in the hard work, held the ball up well but not too effective.
Every time he attacked the ball in the air, it looked like something was about to happen. The Algerian grew in confidence as the game went on. His passing got smoother, his body language looked relaxed and finally, the finish was full of calmness and composure.
He fit in quite well and showed a lot of character, discipline and neatness at the back whenever required. Most importantly, he stuck to his basics.
His corner to Ndidi’s well-directed header was sublime but apart from that, he tried to dribble too much and was a touch too greedy while trying to produce something spectacular.
