Brighton Player Ratings vs Southampton: Here’s how the Seagulls fared

Brighton and Hove Albion were fortunate to come away with a point at the St.Mary’s despite putting in a lacklustre display for the majority of the game. Southampton threatened them on many occasions but the Seagulls held firm to stage a second straight comeback from a two-goal deficit in the Premier League.

Chris Hughton’s men are proving to be a dogged side and one that is hard to beat. Thanks to Shane Duffy’s powerful header and Glen Murray’s late penalty, the Seagulls were able to come back into the game.

Southampton took the lead via a wonder striker from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the first half. Ings was then handed a penalty, which the striker duly converted to pick up his 3rd goal of the season. But the Saints were once again nervy at the back as they collapsed in the final stages of the game to finish at 2-2.

Matt Ryan (7/10)

Almost committed a costly blunder when his clearance fell straight to Manolo Gabbiadini. But Ryan made a couple of fine saves to make up for it.

Martin Montoya (6/10)

Montoya looked shaky at the back and was often troubled by Nathan Redmond’s raids down the flank.

Shane Duffy (8/10)

Duffy initiated the comeback with his powerful header from a set-piece late into the second half. His defensive work was impressive as well.

Lewis Dunk (6/10)

Dunk didn’t look all that comfortable at the back. The likes of Shane Long and Danny Ings handed him a tough evening.

Gaetan Bong (4/10)

It was a sloppy challenge from Bong that handed the Saints their penalty. The defender was all over the place.

Dale Stephens (6/10)

Stephens was good with his distribution in the middle of the park but he did give away the ball on a few occasions.

Anthony Knockaert (7/10)

Knockaert seemed determined to pull back and his work rate on the night was exceptional. The 26-year-old was unable to influence the game though.

Davy Propper (6/10)

Propper has had better games and this one definitely wasn’t one of them. The midfielder endured a frustrating game in the middle of the park.

Yves Bissouma (7/10)

The Mali international occasionally threatened the Saints defence with his direct running on the ball. He created a few opportunities as well but none found the back of the net.

Solly March (7/10)

March’s balls into the box were mostly dealt with by the Southampton defenders. His work rate was impressive as well.

Glenn Murray (9/10)

Murray’s ‘never say die’ attitude once again saw the veteran striker produce the goods when it was needed the most. He toiled all night for his goal and finally got it.

Alireza Jahanbaksh (4/10)

The Iranian came on but didn’t make much of an impact. He gave away a silly foul.

Locadia did well to keep Brighton in the lead, but he too was unable to influence the game going forward.
