Cardiff City put up some fight but in the end, the fact that Manchester City had star power at their disposal pushed them over the line with a 2-0 victory. However, the game was far from easy, with the Bluebirds putting up an incredible fight.
For a team that sits five points from safety and is still in the relegation zone, Cardiff City played with a lot of hope. It was, thanks in part to manager Neil Warnock, who has simply refused to give up. But despite all that, the Bluebirds still ended up on the losing side.
In fact, it was probably the most comfortable victory that the Cityzens will enjoy. They moved the ball around with ease and there was an air of simplicity to every Manchester City move.
The opening goal shouldn’t have actually happened as Neil Etheridge was beaten by Kevin De Bruyne at his near post from a very tight angle. While things would only improve from there for the Cardiff City goalkeeper, he failed to stop Manchester City from scoring another, which they did via Leroy Sane.
A brilliant team move, the Cityzens moved the ball brilliantly around the Cardiff City box before Riyad Mahrez floated a ball in towards Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian despite all his struggles in today’s game, chested it across for Sane, who made no mistake whatsoever.
That sealed the deal for Manchester City and while the home side continued to dominate, they didn’t score. They continued to threaten Etheridge’s goal time and time again but the Cardiff City goalkeeper was a match enough in that second half.
As time went on, hope seemed to run out for Cardiff City but it seemed that no matter what Manchester City did in that second half, Neil Etheridge had an answer.

Phil Foden showed today that he is more than capable of playing successfully around the likes of De Bruyne, David Silva, Gabriel Jesus and others.
Eventually, the full-time whistle blew and Manchester City had done more than enough to secure their lead at the top of the Premier League table once again.
They took a one-point lead and the 2-0 win was more than enough to improve their goal-difference to just over eight. That gives Manchester City a big advantage over Liverpool and only time will tell if it does come down to that.
